Seems to be an older property with some roof damage from previous weather, and if your in-room fridge does not produce ice (like what happened with me), there are no icemakers except in the kitchen area, so desk staff will have to help you. I was very pleased that they were able to check me in hour early, but I was not pleased that within 30 seconds into my room, a housekeeper barged in without knocking, because she wasn’t finished cleaning my room yet. I didn’t make a big deal of it, but the kitchen trash remained unemptied, and the bathroom counter was a little bit messy.
After my first four hours, my freezer still had not produced any ice, so I took the ice tray down to the front desk to request some ice, and the clerk behind the desk asked me in a very condescending way, “well, did you turn the icemaker on?“ I won’t type how I responded, but she very quickly got me ice from kitchen.
Still, this is a very good location away from the downtown area, and let’s face it… Some of the other lodging options closer to downtown are pretty sketchy. This place is quiet, you’re within walking distance of a Hooters (which is actually one of the nicer ones I’ve ever been in), and you’re a very short drive from a lot of other food options. I will definitely stay here again.
Our stay was for four (4) nights. Not once did our rooms (in a two-room suite) get the requested, minimal "freshening up". There was no wastebasket emptying nor any kind of cleanup of the kitchenette area. Never got the beds made. Had to intercept a rare cleaning staff person in the hallway to get a replacement toilet paper roll. This hotel experience ruined our otherwise very enjoyable Abilene visit.
The one rare positive for this hotel stay was the nice woman (I think she was originally from Romania) who manned the front desk. She was a delight to work with. She tried to help us and repeatedly left notes for the cleaning staff - but to no avail.
The last Residence in received a 5 star.
The lobby is pretty. The place is very clean. The bathroom facilities are very satisfactory The air conditioner worked great. Love the kitchenette. There’s a microwave, fridge, a lovely little living room. A very good, free breakfast. And although the place is outdated, it’s very clean, so that wasn’t an issue.
So what’s not to love? The most important part of any overnight stay is the bed and pillows and this place failed miserably. The mattress is old and very saggy. You can’t pull yourself out of the body-shaped saggy part. The pillows feel like a dish rag inside a pillow case.
Had the bed been half decent, we would have loved this place. Too bad they forgot the primary reason for a hotel is a comfortable place to sleep.
Cons: First room reeked of smoke; replacement room had loose bathroom floor tile, a toilet seat that moved, and a refrigerator that ran so loudly we had to unplug it. Also, a dog barked loudly in a nearby room.
Caveat: Animals are permitted in all rooms, i.e., no areas are restricted. The possibility that our room could have cat hair that would trigger asthma/allergies means that we will avoid this property in the future.

Our weekend stay at the Residence Inn here was incomparable to any experience I've ever had. As someone who has spent her life traveling with an active duty husband in the Army, I know from years of experience what makes a great place to stay.
Let's start with the friendliest, most accommodating staff I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. They were all like family by the time our trip came to an end, and it was a heartbreaking goodbye as we drove away in their complimentary shuttle to the airport.
To Miss Kerri, you took such good care of us, and always went above and beyond to make sure we each had everything we might need at anytime. You were just so caring and I truly enjoyed our interactions with you!
To Miss Anita, you were always the brightest part of our mornings! Your joyful and warm personality was infectious to our group each and every morning. We will treasure the pictures we took with you always!
Now as for the Residence Inn itself, all I can say is BRAVO! This is by far the strongest, and possibly the longest and most in depth review I have ever written on any social media site.
The location was beautiful, well kept, well staffed, and had amazing amenities that we did not even expect! It was nice having such a thoughtful and unique breakfast spread to choose from every day, especially as it met many of the individual needs of our very diverse group of students who had particular food requirements. The lobby, where our group spent a majority of it's time on our first and last day, due to our own travel complications, was large enough to comfortably allow us to relax for hours while waiting, as well as get our homework done with all the accommodating tables, chairs, couches, and endless outlets!
Honestly, I could just go on singing their praises. This IS the location to stay at! We all agreed they deserve to be 5 star, just like our chapter Alpha Alpa Xi!!!
