Nearby the harbour and park and two stops away from the streetcar crossing of lines 1 and 5. The atmosphere is as 80 years ago. Look at the elevatorsign indicating the floors. Rooms are quite big for Japan. Airco is functioning and there was an aditional airco in the hal of the room. Breakfast and meals in the restaurant are...

Monterey is a bit tricky to find if you come with the limousine shuttle and are unfamiliar with the area. The staff is friendly and efficient. It is close both to public transportation, eating, nightlife and shopping. The lobby area and surroundings are nicely decorated and includes both an outdoor area and a chapel. The rooms are small and the...

This hotel has a great location being close to the tram, Glover Hill and a pretty open seaside park. It is a short walk to restaurants on the Deijima Wharf and Chinatown. There is a very good bakers - F. Labo. - along the road too. It is not too big and immaculately kept. The wifi is free too. The...

This hotel is located less than a block away from a tram station and 2 tram stops away from the airport bus stop. In fact these stops are so close that you could walk to the airport bus stop and China town within 10 min. We got a room with 3 beds in case beds were too small but the...

The staff couldn't have been more courteous or helpful. Our room with an extra bed had more space than all the others we stayed in in Japan and super quiet. I loved the furnishings and fittings and beds were comfortable. They have a quaint little chapel by the reception and there are many Portuguese artefacts on display. It really is...

We enjoyed the hotel very much even though we had a bad experience booking it through Agoda.com. Long story short, we managed to book two small rooms directly with the hotel for our family. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the location was excellent. The only comment is that the bathroom had a slightly musty odor of mildew but...

Apparently the hotel was built in 1997 but I assume the furniture and fixtures have not been updated since then, rather tired looking. Stains on bed covers and seat but the sheets and towels are clean. The beds have seen better days. Some antique features around the hotel with the lifts looking beautiful with the arrow mechanism pointing to the...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hotel Monterey Nagasaki, located close to the sea, emulates the atmosphere and decor reminiscent of the time when the sea-faring voyagers arrived from Portugal, in an ongoing connection with Nagasaki that dates back to 1543. We promise to deliver a cozy experience where guests can feel part of the story and history of Nagasaki, imagining they are part of a scene from many years ago where the alleyways were illuminated by the rays of the sun and chance encounters with foreign traders were commonplace. The walls are adorned with blue tiles, expertly painted by Portuguese craftsmen, providing a colorful atmosphere. ... more   less
