PROS:

Great location means you can explore all of Kansai from here. You have JR Shin Osaka Station about 5 minutes away, a pair of subway stations in either direction, and a Hankyu train station a short walk away. If Kyoto is booked out and you still want to visit, this is a great, affordable option.

Lots of great food options nearby. Ask the front desk for their handwritten map, it's useful.

Wired internet in the rooms is fast. Wifi is available in the lobbies. All is free.

CON:

Even the non-smoking rooms smelled like smoke. This seems common in Japanese hotels which segregate smokers and non-smokers by floor, but in all the places I stayed in Japan, it was most noticeable here. To be fair the hotel staff seem to acknowledge this and provide air filtration machines to you - make sure you ask for yours.

I spent ten days in Osaka and surrounding areas at Chisun Hotel Shin-Osaka in June 2012. My wife and I really enjoyed our stay there. The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly even though they could they speak little English. We were lucky to meet a male staff there. I forgot his name, but he looked half-Caucasian and spoke very good English. When we told him that we would take a taxi to the airport to get back to Bangkok, he was shocked. We would have to pay around 12,000 yen or more for the taxi. With his advice, he took a short taxi ride to another hotel, where we bought two bus tickets to the airport. That cost us 1,500 yen each.

The room is not spacious, but that is typical in Japan. With around 1,600 baht a night, it is a very good deal. There is an internet connection in each room, and we paid only 1,000 yen for a day rent of the hotel's laptop.

It is 10 minutes walk from the Shin-Osaka subway and train terminal, so we had no problem getting into town from the hotel. We bought 2 JR passports, which cost us around 10,000 baht each for seven days of free rides on JR trains and Shinkansen. We took two Shinkansen trips to Nagoya and Kyoto, and enjoyed them tremendously.

I flew into Narita yesterday and then got a connecting flight to Itami Airport in Osaka. I booked a room near Shin Osaka station as I would take the train to Kyoto the next morning. The hotel was about a 7-10 minute walk to Shin Osaka Station

As per usual in Japan, the front desk staff were very friendly and efficient and my check-in took less than 5 minutes. I booked a non-smoking, single room. The size was what I expected, although the bathroom was slightly smaller than I was used to (kept banging my elbows into the shower walls). The price of the room ($50 Canadian) and the location were the main reason I booked the room.

The level of cleanliness was not up to the standards I would expect from a Japanese Hotel. The bathroom had a slight but noticeable odour of a damp, mildew smell. The bathroom overall could have been cleaner in appearance. There was a noticeable amount of dust on the edges of the wall near the window that was in plain view and I was surprised to see it as it was my third visit to Japan, my 7th different hotel, and my first experience with not having a room that was cleaned very well.

There was a cable for internet service that I plugged into my laptop (but no wifi in the rooms), and the a/c worked well. There was also a small flat screen tv, an elctric kettle for boiling water, a hair dryer, but unfortunately no small fridge.

The one saving grace of the room was the bed. My western back sometimes struggles to find a comfortable position on the firmer mattresses in Asia, so I was really happy when I climbed into bed after a long day of travel from Vancouver and found that the mattress was much, much, more comfortable than expected. The mattress along with soft duvet and the fresh smelling bed linens were really great.

I would recommend this hotel, but not highly recommend it. If the hotel were to improve its level of cleanliness it could be considered a very good budget hotel.

Stayed here for a night. Had a room on the 8th floor. The sound proofing was really bad with me able to hear everything in the next room. Room is a little smaller than most rooms in business hotels. The hotel is about a 10 min walk to Shin-Osaka station. There is a convenient store just below, so that is convenient.

We stayed at Chisun as the base for our traveling around Kansai (Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Kobe, Himeji). We booked the late check out couple plan for 7 nights. The price for each night was different, with one night 7k, one night 5.8k and the rest at 5k (week days). The package was for a room with double bed (140cm), special set of couple amenities and late check out at 12.

The room was of reasonable size and quality - clean, bright, comfortable air-con, space for 2-3 mid size luggages with a bit of space to walk. It came with most things that we expect: toilet (with electric washlet)/bath (small), LCD TV (Japanese channels), free LAN, toilet/bath amenities (razor, hair brush, toothbrush/paste, shampoos in fitted dispenser, hand/bath/floor towels), slippers, mini refrigerator, hair dryer, bathrobe, firm bed. The room had no kettle, however a small humidifier with induction water boiler (capacity of a mug); no wardrobe, however some hangers on the wall; no shower cap. The hotel has vending machines at probably every floor, free use of laundry machine, laundry dryer (100yen per 30 minutes) - all these at 2nd floor; a restaurant at ground floor (didn't try); massage service (didn't try).

Near the hotel, there are convenient stores (Family Mart, Lawson) just a few minutes walk, a family run Chinese restaurant across the street, few eating shops along the way between the hotel and the station. Train station (subway and JR) is about 10 minutes walk. The subway is half way (i.e. closer) between the hotel and JR station. Shin-osaka station has many shops. Our check in and out were brief and easy; staff were friendly; we could left our luggages safely before/after check in/out. Room cleanup was done everyday however, bedsheet was not changed even on the day we indicated so (by not placing the green card on the bed). We could hear noise (quite clearly) outside the room (from walkway, not so much from the room next to us), especially in the morning when the cleaners were doing cleanup. Overall a good hotel at really good price.

The hotel is at a quiet side and there is nothing much for tourists to see in Shin-osaka. The walk to/from the station is along quiet street and it felt far that way. In most cases, we had to connect through Osaka/Umeda to reach other places. In Osaka, Namba (Dontobori) seems a lot more lively and Umeda is moderate.

This hotel near to the train station and JR station. There have many 24 hrs store and supermarket (24hrs) nearby, so no worry if you starving at late nite. There is no shopping mall nearby, need to take train to Osaka city (3-4 mins).

The hotel decor simple and nice. it has nice facility and the front desk is very helpful. My hair dryer was broken, and they sent me a new one in 5 mins.

I stayed at this hotel at the end of a group tour with my motorcycle club. We were in transit, and it was only a one-night stay.

The rooms are not big, but the twin room I was sharing was adequate for the two of us, and would have been fine for maybe up to a weeks' stay before we might have felt a bit cramped.

I found the hotel room very clean and tidy. The staff were very friendly and, unlike another post on here, they helped me with luggage forwarding to a Tokyo hotel without fuss or bother.

Also, between my limited Japanese, and the staff members' English, we were able to easily communicate our needs.

Great Laundry room too.

As others have indicated, it is close to Shin Osaka Station, and close to eateries.

I'd be more than happy to stay there again.

The shin Osaka Has just finished the rework so now room is new, clean , small (normal in Japan) but Well designed and useful. Most important is its location. From 5 minutes no more to Shin-Osaka station (JR lines and Shinkansen) and Nishinakajima-minigata Subway . You can go to Kyoto, Nara, Kobe, anywhere in Osaka so fast ! And price offer is good. Enjoy

It's a great hotel some 15 min away from kyoto with the Shinkansen train. I've chosen it because everything was already booked in Kyoto but I'm not regretting the decision to stay in Shin-osaka. It's 3 min walking distance from the JR train station, which makes it perfectly located for both - visiting Kyoto and Osaka, Kobe, Himeji.
The staff is nice and they can speak English (just enough). There are a few restaurants nearby, as well as convinient stores.
Great value for the money!

We stayed at the Chisun Hotel for one night in July 2013. Great location near Shin-Osaka train station. Small, comfortable room with good shower and air-con. Internet was wired (wifi in lobby). Check-in at 2pm, check-out at 11am - no exceptions. Very little English spoken.
