For our trip to Osaka, I booked a non-smoking twin room (two twin beds) for three nights. From Kansai Airport, we caught the Nankai Airport Express to Namba and then walked from the Namba (Nankai) Station to the Namba (Subway) Station. We got a bit lost transferring from the Nankai to Namba Subway Station since we followed the signs for the Yotsubashi Line and that led us out onto the street (via stairs too while lugging around luggage). However, I believe that the two stations connect, to be explained below. From there, we took the subway to Higobashi via the Yotsubashi Line. Conveniently located right next to the Higobashi Station, I recommend coming out of exit #10 for an elevator if you have luggage with you. The hotel will just be on your left, across the street (same side of the street) when you come out. You can also use exit #2 and the hotel entrance will be around the corner of the 7-Eleven store or through the Daily Yamazaki mart entrance.

To get back to Kansai Airport, we basically took the same route in reverse . There will be signs for the Nankai Line right when you get off at the Namba subway station. However, we discovered on a trial run (to avoid stairs and from getting lost as we did at the beginning) that following those signs immediately led us to numerous sets of stairs and outside of the station. Instead, we found out that following signs for the Namba Walk (it will just be small Namba Walk stickers on the signs though) and walking through the corridor of shops/restaurants lining the Namba Walk - there were another set of signs for the Nankai Line. Following those signs, we made it to the Namba Nankai Station without having to go up or down any stairs. It is a lengthy walk but it was doable with our rolling luggage. We did not encounter any stairs on our entire route from Higobashi Station to the Nankai Station, making use of elevators and escalators.

Finally onto the review of the hotel! A little bit old-fashioned in this respect, this hotel still uses keys instead of cards to access their rooms. You drop off your key at the front desk whenever you go out and pick it up again when you come back. I didn't mind (though when I first read about the setup, I thought it might be a nuisance) since the front-desk staff is very friendly, always greeting you when you come to drop off/pick up your keys, and the transaction is always speedy.

Our room was small according to Western standards but I thought it was actually quite roomy for a Japanese business hotel. I have survived and enjoyed my stay in much smaller hotel rooms with tiny airplane-like bathrooms (see my review for the APA Hotel Osaka Tanimachi). Our room included a flat-screen TV, a mini-fridge, a water heater (great for late-night cup noodle cravings), and a humidifier/air purifier. It was December when we visited so I think the hotel had central heating. Therefore, it was quite stuffy in the room at first when I left the air conditioning to high. Afterwards, I left the air conditioner off and turned on our humidifier/air purifier. The bathroom is stocked with a shampoo/bath soap dispenser in the shower and other things like razors, toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc. The room was neat, modern, and clean - the fixtures in the bathroom were practically shiny! Comfort-wise, the pillow was a bit hard for my liking and therefore, sleep wasn't easy for me. There is free WIFI and we never had any problems with outside noises even though we had a room right near the elevators.

As mentioned, there is a 7-Eleven and Daily Yamazaki convenience store right next to the hotel. For coffee-fiends, there is a Starbucks right across the street from the hotel. Namba Station with Dotonburi is just three stations away on the Yotsubashi Line. We also made day trips to Nara and Kyoto from this hotel with no problems. There are other restaurants/shops nearby (in addition the hotel's restaurant) but I would consider this a more quieter neighborhood, which I prefer since I wouldn't want to wade through crowds to get to my hotel.

If you are looking for a relatively inexpensive hotel close to transportation, I would suggest Rihga Nakanoshima Inn for it's clean rooms and friendly staff.

Stayed 4 Nights.

Directions: If coming from Kansai airport, take the Nankai Line and change at Namba station to subway (5-10 mins walk out of Nankai Line to subway) then proceed to Higobashi station.
The hotel is about just beside Higobashi subway station. Probably just 3 min walk from the train platform once one is familiar with the area.

Service : Very Good .The staff at the lobby counter were helpful, polite and spoke good English. Check-in and Check out were of little fuss. Were able to answer clearly enquiries like locations of train stations, attractions and facilities of the hotel. Felt comfortable and welcome when speaking to them.

Value : Very Good. As mentioned beside a subway station. Although not near busy shopping places like Namba or Dotonbori (a couple of stations away), there were eatries and convenience stores (in the hotel and a 7-11 beside),Starbucks was on the opposite of main entrance. Safe. Strong Wifi signal. Washing machines (coin operated) were available in a couple of floors.

Sleep Quality: Very Good. No serious disturbance. Relatively quiet in the nights.

Cleanliness: Very good. No issue. Beds, toilets were ok.

Location : Very good. As stated above. Near subway. Also near the Osaka Science Museum in case one is interested. (walkable).
For those travelling to and fro Shin Osaka station ( where one can take Shinkansen) . The Yodoyabashi station can be connected to shin Osaka station, just bit further walk, 5-10 mins leisurely walk.

Rooms : Room Type Triple Room, Non Smoking. Allocated a corner room@ end of corridor .The space is enough for us. (had 2 medium luggage and a medium bag type). TV was ok , Japanese channels though. Heater (air-con) worked ok. Small Water heater Cup (for boiling hot water) and hair blower were available in the room. Toilet/bathroom facilities were fine. Daily clean up room service were up to expected standards.

Fitness center Not aware/ Not used

Good quality value stay.

Rihga Nakanoshima Inn is located in a strategic location. There are 24 hours convenience stores and food outlets around the hotel. Starbucks is right in front of the hotel.

The rooms are very clean and well equipped. Towels, pillow cases and bed sheets are changed every day. Staff speaks English and they have ready maps to guide you around Osaka .Very friendly accommodating staff.

There is a good spread of Western and Japanese dishes at the breakfast buffet every morning.

If you are coming from Kansai International Airport taking the Airport Limousine bus (buy return ticket if stay is less than 14 days) to Herbis Osaka bus terminal. Then catch the train on purple Yotsubashi line from Nishi Umeda station to Higobashi station. Use exist 10 for elevator or walk up stairs at exist 2.

I will definitely stay in this hotel on my next visit to Osaka and also introduce it to my families and friends.

The proximity to the subway station was what made us decide on this hotel. However the directions to the hotel on its website was incomplete. We actually ended up at the sister hotel Rihga Royal hotel and took a cab here.

Easiest way to get to this place from Kansai International Airport is to take the Airport Limousine bus to Herbis Osaka bus terminal and catch the subway purple Yotsubashi line from Nishi Umeda station (just next to the bus terminal) to Higobashi station, just one stop away.

There are a few food outlets around this area as well as 24 hours convenience stores. The hotel is also within walking distance to the Osaka Sciece Museum as well as the Art Museum. Definitely worth the visit!

Guest room is clean and staff are friendly. Breakfast is served at level 1 if you like to have it.

not too bad for a hotel but be prepared to request a non-smoking floor (if u are a non-smoker) as the stench of smoke can be quite strong especially for someone who is sensitive to smoke. basically, u will be spending most of the time outdoor and therefore the room is just to put your luggage and to sleep.
room is really small and really quite cramped for 2 persons staying in there. otherwise, the hotel is clean and well-kept. located right above a subway station (higobashi station) which can bring u to umeda or namba station. nothing much around the area but there's a eatery (another version of yoshinoya) right opposite and it's 24hrs (if i'm not wrong).

This is a great hotel in a fab location - short walk to nearby park/rose garden and the river which was beautiful. Short walk to subway stop which gets you all over the city quickly. Staff helpful at front desk. We arrived very early and they stored our luggage for us no problem. Refrigerator in room and desk area with toiletries and hairdryer in bathroom. Comfortable bed. Only negative is that the Room was so small we couldn't unpack or store our suitcases.
There is a little store on the corner as you turn left coming out of the hotel where you can pick up coffee/snacks and we found a fab little Italian cafe short walk away which did great breakfast for ¥300 - cheaper than the ¥1000 charge daily for hotel breakfast buffet!

As I am travelling on my own - location is the most important when selecting hotels. RIGHA Nakankshima Inn offers what I need.

1. Location - subway Higobashi station - exit from ex.10 and right on your left when you get out approximately 20 steps away right opposite to Starbucks. As I arrived after midnight I had to take the bus to Namba and caught a cab to the hotel which cost ¥1000 which is reasonable. Otherwise you can either catch the Rapid Train to the city and change to subway from there.

2. Room is good enough for one person and comfortable although I prefer a larger pillow. Bathroom is equipped with combined shower and tub. Not sure if they have larger rooms for couple travellers.

3. Staff are friendly and always at your service. They remember your name and face.

4. Convenience store next to reception - always nice to be able to get a snack and drink real quickk

Pros:
Close to the Higobashu train station. It's literally right next door

Cons:
The hotel has different smells (that I didn't find pleasant), from the lobby to the elevator, to our room. We were put in a smoking room first so be clear about specifying if you want a non smoking room

Small room (even for Japanese hotel standards) and is older (still has actual keys for doors)

Although it's close to a subway station, it's situated in the business area so it's very quiet and not close to any good shopping/restaurants. If you are looking for something lively, try to stay walking distance to the shopping district in Namba where there is TONS of shopping and dining options
