Looking for good yet affordable accommodations in the popular cities of Japan can be challenging.

So when I was planning the first family vacation to Osaka, I was looking for a hotel that was part of an international chain, near the train station and yet not hurtful on the wallet. I would say Aloft fit the bill!

Part of the Marriot Bonvoy group, this nifty hotel provides decent sized rooms with complete toiletries which they top up each day. The rooms aren’t huge but enough for a queen bed, sofa and table. The best part was the separate shower and toilet, which in the open bath area afforded the privacy. It also has a restaurant, bar and gym, and we had free coffee even without buying the breakfast.

Location wise, it’s about 8-10 minutes underground to the nearest station, with access just outside the hotel, and another 3 minutes to the massive Osaka station complex, where you can catch the AirPort Express trains and buses, trains to USJ and neighboring towns like Nara or Kobe.

Service was excellent and English speaking so you won’t have any trouble. They were also very nice to help me make reservations at restaurants. Even taxis stop just outside the hotel for early airport goers.

The only negative is that the rooms face the main road, which has sound of traffic at night. We were ok but probably not for light sleepers as the sound proofing was not sufficient.

For the price, huge value for money!

Top tip: explore the eateries underground on the way to the train station!

The room we got was large enough and the beds were comfortable. Check in was quick with its efficient front desk personnel. The hotel’s location allows one to walk to several eating places so getting something to fill an empty stomach is quite easy.
There’s a entrance to the train station just a few meters from the front door of the hotel.
The toilet is separate from the bathroom so “traffic” does not happen when you and your SO do your morning “rituals”.
We tried their breakfast buffet once during our one-week stay. No great stories to tell here after one had done breakfast buffets in hotels in Manila. So this is not the hotel’s strong suit as far as I’m concerned.
The corridor to our room was a bit dimly lit. For the missus, this was a negative.
We normally do not have our room cleared daily during our stay in other hotels. We did request that our room not be cleared after our first night because of travel-fatigue and we know our bags are all over the place. The hotel sent us a reminder that they would “recommend” that the room be cleaned and cleared to maintain the hotel’s standard for cleanliness and safety. Ok then.
The daily delivery of two small bottles of water was likewise appreciated although we had to augment this tiny supply with two big bottles of water from a Family Mart conveniently located just across the hotel. Also, the front desk helped us get a taxi for our Shinkansen ride for Tokyo.

Recently stayed at Aloft Osaka Dojima at the end of a business trip. My second time did stayed at Aloft chain. Love this chain. I picked this hotel for its location (close to several department stores). This hotel has everything you need, close to the shopping area and Okasa station (complex), tons of restaurants. There is an entrance to the underground walkway about 20 meters from the hotel which leads to Osaka station. Makes walking with suite case much easier. Osaka Loopline/Airport Express train takes you directly to KIX. Nice walking path to Osaka Castle along the river. Room is clean and has everything you need. Front desk is also very friendly and helpful. As an elite member, I get free breakfast. By Japan standard, it is not the best but by the US standard, it is not bad at all. My room is at the 10th floor and I am a light sleeper. I do hear a some road noise from cars on the street but not too bad. Some reviews say the lobby is noisy since they have load music. It stopped during the bedtime so it did not bother me. If you are dealing with jet lag, it might be more difficult. The hotel building is lower than nearby skyscrapers so you don't really have views other than the streets and buildings. I thought I could see the river. Need to point out the lower priced chain, such as Aloft, Courtyard etc, may have less to do with the elite status. For example, I booked a corner room but my room was not ready at 3:30 pm so they gave me a regular room "at higher floor" as a compensation. But I usually get higher floor anyway at Marriott. This did not bother me as I barely spent any time in the room. Great value for your money for sure.

We really liked the room layout of this hotel.
The divider between the toilet/shower area and the bed really helped block any light from the toilet area when either of us was sleeping.
The sound proofing was really good, could hardly hear the busy road outside.
The bed itself was very comfy and large. We really liked having the sofa as an alternative place to sit rather than just the bed. The shower had really good pressure.
The bar is really nice, we had a couple of drinks there during our stay.
Everywhere in the hotel was really clean and we liked that only hotel guests can use the lift, made us feel very safe and secure.
The laundry facility was really helpful for us as we were in Japan for just under 2 weeks and had clothes to wash during our trip. There are only 2 washer drier machines for the entire hotel so you have to book in advance.
Our main regret was just not staying in Osaka for longer so we could enjoy the hotel for a bit longer!

There was a DJ event going on on the first floor.

The noise was great until 11pm.

We stayed in a room on the second floor, but the noise was so loud even inside the room!

I commented on the situation and received an email from the representative.

Thank you very much for your time.

In your comment, you mentioned that your stay was interrupted by loud noise from the DJ. I want all our guests to experience a relaxing and peaceful stay.

We stayed at Aloft Osaka Dojima for 3 nights and we had an amazing experience.

This is just a few things that we loved in the hotel:

• Our room was spacious, comfortable and we loved the decoration. Free water, coffee and tea.
• All the staff was very professional, nice and kind. They really know how to take care of their guests.
• Perfect location close to metro and train stations. Bus stop just in front of the hotel.
• Plenty of restaurants, cafés and supermarkets close by.
• The breakfast was delicious with much variety with fresh and traditional ingredients.
• The gym is well equipped with free water and you can do your own laundry for a low cost.

We had, without a doubt an amazing hotel experience.
We can't recommend enough staying here.

아마 오사카에 와도 다시는 이 호텔에 올 일은 없을거고 주변에 누가 간다고 해도 추천을 하지는 못 할 것 같다. 위치도, 서비스도, 객실도 어느 하나 좋은 것이 없다.

When I checked in it was 8pm, and my room was not assigned, and okay I understood that situation. But when I signed in, the staff show me the room rate about 95,000 JPY. As I remember I reserved the room as 56,000 JPY. So, I checked the Marriott App, but it was changed to 94,xxxx JPY. I cannot understand why. Anyway I found my confirmation email and showed it to the staff. Unless I checked the confirmation I should have paid double.
Finally, I got a room on the 5th floor, and the room… it was really disappointing. No view… it was faced another building’s wall.
So, I called the reception twice, but nobody picked up the phone. I came down to the reception and asked to change my room to the higher floor or to the better view. The male staff said it was fully booked and no king bed room on the day. Okay, I can understand because it was already 8pm. So I asked him to change the room next day then. But he said it is fully booked again so no more better rooms because the better rooms are for the elite members. I don’t understand what he said because I’ve worked at Marriott hotels at the front desk more than 10 years and never said to guest that ways and I don’t think even he really tried to find a room for me. I saw the OPERA screen when he checked it and I knew he didn’t check the availability. He just pretended to check it. If this hotel is like what he said, I don’t know how many elite members come here, non Marriott elite members should’t come to this hotel during weekend because they will have rooms on the low floor without any view.
I didn’t ask one more room, I just asked to change my room. So, it doesn’t matter if the rooms are fully occupied or not.

Great to see new Aloft hotels as the brand is our favourite of the mid-tier in the Marriott group. Warm welcome. Rooms are typical of city hotels in terms of size but has a great layout with a semi-circular sofa and table and spacious bathroom area. The usual incredibly comfortable bed from Aloft. Staff were attentive and friendly throughout. The breakfast buffet was very good in terms of offering and quality. We were on the 10th floor and there was some residual noise from the road below but no different to most city centre hotels. We loved the location as could walk to Osaka station and also south across the river. Exceptional price point too.

Be WARNED- if you run warm, book a different hotel! Air temperature only goes down to 20° C which is especially problematic when it is summer/warm and the shower has been used. Brought this up with the hotel and they acknowledge that the temperature has a set limit on air conditioning; no windows to open, no fans available either. Had to prop open the door to the hallway (which was cool) with the garage wastebasket. Hotel room is small so easily gets warm; hot and uncomfortable the entire visit (5 days.)

Don’t think twice, book this hotel, it has everything you wish for.

Excellent and convenient location, by the water, 8 minutes walk from the Osaka main station, Very clean and spacious room compared to other hotels we went to in Japan. Exceptional service!

We were lucky to meet Roberto at the front desk who was extremely helpful with everything! He answered all our questions about hotel amenities, he gave us excellent recommendations on what to do in Osaka. We were very impressed and it made our trip even more special.

Breakfast buffet was amazing. We recommend booking a room with breakfast included as it was worth every penny. Elias and his team at the restaurant were also very helpful and did a great job. We also tried their lunch which was also exceptional.

When we were checking out, we had the chance to meet the General manager Jad. A true gentleman who took the time to chat with us about this lovely hotel in Osaka and made us feel even more welcome making us not want to leave Osaka or this hotel.

There is no doubt that this was the best hotel we stayed in so far in Japan! We highly recommend and will definitely be back!
