Just got back from 7 nights at Hotel Hillarys. Have to say that for the $95 a night we paid this was a great find. Good location, less than 10 minutes walk to Namba station and subways, close to an abundance of cheap eateries, a seven eleven directly under the hotel which has a foreign card accepting ATM and if you become a member for free they offer you tickets for free buffet breakfast, bottled water, cafe voucher or movie card. We got half breakfast vouchers and half coffee vouchers. The breakie wasn't my liking as it was all Japanese but if you are into that it is a bargain. There was also free pastries between 6 and 8 am in the lobby. You need to get there early before they are all gone. There weren't any jams for the croissants but the apple danish was yummo.

I booked direct through the hotels website. You email them with when you want to stay and they email back confirming. I paid when I arrived for check in and they didn't even take a credit card for security when booking. When I booked I asked to become a member as you got the room at a cheaper price and got the added bonuses. Showing your membership or room key at the cafe on the floor level gave you half price drinks and food.

There was a drinks machine for hot and cold drinks that you could help yourself to and the shampoo bar was great for meeting your own hair needs. I had emailed the hotel asking to book a hair straightener and it was sitting in my room when I got there. The bathroom also had free razors, brushes, toothbrushes and paste, sponges etc.

The rooms were small as per usual for Japan. It was no different to any other hotel we have stayed at in Osaka or Tokyo. We had a twin room with two good sized beds and a little bit of room to manoeuvre. We went for the twin room as double beds in Japan seem to be a little squeezy. The bathroom was tiny but sufficient. The room was perfectly clean and in good condition.

On the down side the beds were super hard. I am used to a very soft bed so it stood out. The pillows are hard too but luckily you could choose your own pillows from reception so I went and selected another two soft ones on the second day. The staff are so accommodating!

I had read in one review that the hotel was noisy with subway noise. I could hear the subway but it wasn't that loud that it kept me awake. I am a very light sleeper so it wasn't that bad. On the first night I was concerned but other than the infrequent sound of the subway the hotel was very quiet. Didn't hear any traffic sound or noisy neighbours.

There were two computers with free internet in the lobby but you could also hard wire into free internet in the rooms. The blue cables were supplied.

Some little tips:
If you arrive in Nankai station from the airport you will arrive on the 3rd floor. Don't walk all the way to the front of the trains as you can use the escalators that are half way down the tracks. Come down one set of escalators to the 2nd floor then look for the east exit escalator (exit is on the first floor) which is on the right hand side of the building. Go down this escalator to the first floor and follow the east exit sign.
This will bring you out beside the back side of the Louis Vuitton store in the Takashimaya store. As you walk out of the building turn right and walk up the road until you come to the huge red Game store on the corner of the opposite side of the road. Cross the road and walk up along the side of the Game store turning left. On the right you will see the huge 5 story 100 yen store Daiso.
Follow this road until you come to the big intersection and turn right. You will be able to see the big Hotel Hillarys sign up ahead on the left hand side of the road.

If you are looking for the Namba Information office to buy a discounted pass (Osaka Unlimited or Kansai Thru Pass) it is really easy. I had read all these reviews confusing me but if you enter the east exit on the first floor from the road you walk in, turn right and keep walking straight. You will see the signs and see it. it is on the first floor not underground like I had got advise. You can also walk to the front of the station and walk in past Godiva chocolate shop and it is about 10 metres further on.

Rooms are small but I liked how the space was utilised. Great amenities for the bathrooms. Love the Shampoo bar and free drinks on the 2nd floor.
Walking distance to Doutonbori St, Zepp Namba ( yes I was just there for a concert!) ... Tons of food everywhere. 7-11 downstairs.
Getting to the hotel from Kansai international airports ( KIX) :
From the train station just off of the main terminal, take the Nankai line ( Nankai - Namba ). Get off at Nankai Namba Stn ( 45 min ride)
Take the south exit at the stn. Turn left and head towards a traffic light ( Nansan St). At the 3rd traffic light at the cross junction, you will see a 7-11store across the street on the left.
Turn right and walk for 5 mins till u see another 7-11 on the left just before the entrance of Hillarys. .

Nice hotel which is easy to find if you choose the right exit from the subway. Use exit 10 of the Nippombashi Station and go straight out for 6-8 minutes. The hotel is next to the second 7-eleven on your left hand.

We stayed in the hotel for 7 nights in early April. It was our first trip to japan but we were with seasoned japanese travelers so felt in good hands, Despite reports that Japanese hotel rooms were small we found this room to be of a good comfortable size, not huge but certainly bigger than I was expecting. We opted for a twin room as these tend to be bigger and we got a room on the 8th floor. The room itself was well kitted out with everything we needed and if you've not been to Japan before.....the toilets are something to behold....fully electric with heated seats......I don't know how I'm going to cope at home...
Free Internet in the room was wired but we had a wifi hub to plug in so that was good...free wifi was provided in the lobby. As well as free coffee and juice bar.

The staff were very helpful and all spoke good English.

If you join the hotel loyalty scheme you can get either a free breakfast or a bottle of water per day.
The breakfast is served in the cafe on the ground floor, it is a Japanese breakfast so standby for rice and fried food and fish....if you are adventurous you will enjoy it.....
One tip...if you are in a rush or have an eye for a good deal, if you have the breakfast as a takeaway you can take it up to the lobby or your room and eat it there, with free coffee and they give you ¥100 back....bargain...

The location of the hotel is very handy on the edge of the electronics area and a 5 min walk away from namba station....very handy for both transport around the area and for nit time eating and shopping along shin sai bashi street....
There is a 7 - 11 on the ground floor with everything you will need including ¥98 sake that will make you go blind...
This is a very good hotel in a great location......

I will be back..

We did try to book Hillarys the first 2 days we were in Osaka, but could not get the dates. Finally managed to get bookings on our return leg.

Service: Minimum of two staff on duty at the reception counter, and they are all helpful.

Value: The hotel averaged Yen8,000 per room night for 2 pax with breakfast. Combined with their free use of bicycles, location, excellent breakfast, free flow of cocoa and soft drinks, free wifi at the lobby , it's great value.

Sleep Quality: comfortable twin beds, large enough to roll over on it, thick quilts made winter comfortable. An easily controllable airconditioning helped lots to get the right temperature that we wanted.

Cleanliness: Could not find any dirt. On the first day, the bathroom had a musty smell, we compalined, and the chambermaid cleaned it out, Good for the remaining 3 nights.

Location: 100m from Koremon market, 200m from Namba, 800m from Dontobury. 10min walk to Nankai Namba station to catch the limited express train to Kansai airport.

Highlghts: Use the 4 free bicycles to cycle everywhere in that area - just be careful where you park the bicycles cause if you park it in the mall, they clamp the bicycles and you have to pay a fine. Park along the side roads, or where you see many bicycles. Breakfast is great, meats, fish, rice, udon, salads, miso soup, mixed fruit salad for dessert - eat like lunch and you're good to go till dinner.

Great value for money. The room was small (very small) as expected, but clean and comfortable. Free drinks available at the welcoming lobby, as well as coin operated washing machine and dryer, and two computers with free internet. The Japanese breakfast for 500 yens at the cafe on the ground floor is really good value for money too. We stayed at some very expensive five star hotels during our stay in Japan but Hotel Hillarys was a bargain given what you get for the price. Highly recommended if you are looking for a cheap but comfortable and well-appointed hotel in Osaka. Close to lively Namba and Dotombori, one of the main entertainment areas.

Hotel Hillarys is a great hotel, situated about 5-10min walking distance from Namba station. The rooms are clean, comfy and modern. They also offer free drinks and toiletries in the lobby which is a nice little bonus!
There is a 7/11 downstairs & a Lawson across the street for convenience.
I would definitely stay here again!
