Stayed in "Shirakawa" room on the forth floor. Way too small room so for only one person can bearly sleep in. If you have some kind of phobia for the small, closed space (without window) then avoid this place. Otherwise, the restaurant service and the food was outstanding for its value. I guess Kyoto is too popular among tourists so...

It is a nice hotel with traditional Japanese style rooms and meals. If you want some authentic Japanese experience, try it. But if you look for something high end and exclusive, then this is not your choice. I have been to the same chain's hotel at Mt. Fuji areas and it is much nicer than this one.

Conveniently located near subway stations and within walking distance to Kiyomizu-dera. Loved the beautiful breakfast and dinner! Enjoyed everything they served! Room is spacious with tatami floors, and I liked how this because we could have privacy and didn't have to worry about the hotel/ryokan attendants to come in and prepare your futon or meals. You eat with other people...

Average meal and below average onsen, I was having quite a negative impression of this hotel until I was sick and tried to have my breakfast. Having a high fever, I lost appetite to all dishes on my table. I asked the waitress for a bowl of porridge. The old lady tried to explain to us that the meal were...

This hotel is very dependant on what you are looking for. I was very happy and didn't mind staying on the futon on the floor and the small bathrooms and the very unusual breakfast as I was lost in the whole Japan experience. However for some I can see that this would be a nightmare. Therefore if you know what...

Personal I loved this hotel. It gave me the real experience of Japan. And yes, they will give you raw fish. But your are in Japan wat did you ecxpect? ( Which was freaking delicious). It is a bit challenging, because we had no idea how to eat everything. And the staffs engelish is very poor in the dining area,...

We travelled to Kyoto at end of March and found hotel rooms to be very expensive everywhere. Finally we found this hotel to fit into our budget. We thought we were lucky. Upon check-in, we were shocked to find the room is only probably six tatami in size. Six tatami would mean if you have your cabin luggage opend up...

We were told this would be a fun experience, but do yourself a favor and don't bother staying here. Rooms were large, bathroom was smaller than a 16 foot caravans! Included dinner had no other options if you don't like Octopus and raw fish and other weird stuff. Gave up on dinner half way through and went to the 711...

I stayed here in late March, just a few days before the beginning of cherry blossoms, with my friend on my first trip to Kyoto. I will not stay here the next time I go - and TRUST ME there will be a second time to Kyoto, but not to this Hotel. On the plus side, the location is absolutely...

We stayed at this fantastic ryokan during cherry blossom season for 4 nights (only ryokan/hotel available during this time). The staff was extremely friendly. The room was HUGE (entryway with separate shower and toilet, bedroom with 2 double beds, and sitting area) -- 20+ tatami! A HUGE and tasty japanese breakfast was served every morning. The hotel also features a...
