#1 of 980 Speciality lodging in Kyoto
We took an old Kyoto house, with it's 100 years of history, and turned it into this guesthouse. It is about 15 minutes from Kyoto station by bus. It's very conveniently located to many sightseeing spots. And we are surrounded by local atmosphere, a shopping street and public bath houses. You can enjoy Kyoto from a variety of different angels.

Here at COMPASS you not only get to stay at a traditional Kyoto machiya with its beautiful naka-niwa (middle garden), but will also get to meet the nicest hosts (MAMA and PAPA). They will truly make you feel like home. Environment: cozy and welcoming. Facilities (shared space): bathroom and toilet (two of each), coffee maker, tea, snacks, reading and eating space, garden. Room (I booked the main room for two people): Japanese styled room, specious, beautiful, is next to the leaving room, easy access to all the main facilities. Perks: Free ice cream! Service: outstanding, the hosts will really go out of their way to make your stay as comfortable as possible. They speak great English and some basic Chinese. I couldn't have made a better choice than staying at COMPASS. Highly recommend it! 很慶幸我們選擇住在這裡,這大概是本年度最開心的體驗了,希望疫情早日過去,papa mama 生意越來越好!下次再見~

My second stay in Kyoto Compass was as good as the first one. Maybe better even. The house is lovely, the bath very nice after a long day visiting the city and the breakfast very good (toasts, juice, fruits, bacon, avocado, egg and many jam and spreads). But the best part in Kyoto Compass is the owners Papa and Mama. They will made you feel welcome and Mama gave the best advice to visit around. I love also talking with the others travelers.

Mama and papa are the best. Very nice and warm people. The house has a very nice atmosphere and it's so nice to be able to talk to other guests if you want and exchange travel stories and recommendations. Also always very nice to talk to mama. She has lots of stories to tell! We had a nice private room in the back. Don't hesitate. Come to Compass!!

I really LOVED my stay at Guesthouse KYOTO COMPASS!!! I felt so sad that I only had 2 nights there!! The location was very convenient, the hosts (Mama and Papa) were incredible, the breakfast and the community around breakfast was such a welcome surprise to a solo traveler, the coffee was so good, the decor tranquil, and my room was amazing! I will definitely be staying here again as this was a true highlight of my first trip to Japan and Kyoto! I wish everyone could experience what I did. I'm so grateful for this place and the two who've created such an oasis in Kyoto!

Stayed here 3 days for our visit to Kyoto and Nara. The hostess and her family was a highlight of our trip, with their exceptional hospitality and service. Papa and Mama were so friendly and bubbly, and their house was delightfully charming and authentic. You will experience a warm welcome and great facility at this hostel, easily accessible to the rest of Kyoto by bus and train. Come and stay with them if you want to experience a good Japanese home stay.
