We spent 3 nights at this hotel and enjoyed our stay a lot. Firstly, the staff at the hotel was very helpful with any queries and requests - they upgraded us to King size rooms from Standard one. Our room was nice and more spacious than what Japanese hotels typically offer. The location of the hotel was also very nice....

The hotel chain in Japan is an European style hotel, but it surprisingly fit into the most traditional city in Japan. Kyoto is one of the best city I ever visited in Japan. The hotel room is not large enough but average, ordinary size among hotel room in every cities of Japan. I preferred the location of the hotel, there's a...

We stayed at Hotel Monterey Kyoto for the first time during our recent trip there. We picked this hotel primarily for the location. It is in a very good location. The hotel at the intersection of Karasuma and Rokkaku streets. The closest subway station is Karasuma Oike, the intersection of the two subway lines in Kyoto. Check-in was efficient. The...

A friend booked us in this hotel. It wants to look like a European Villa. It even has a chapel inside. i guess this hotel was meant for weddings. Room was clean but there was a hint of smoke. we got the smoking room. room was so so, but breakfast was an experience. Kobe is known for beef and their...

Unimposing hotel, has everything going on behind the façade. The room was sufficient for purpose and offered everything required from a hotel room, however I felt if there were 2 occupants it might have been rather claustrophobic. Very clean but sadly lacking in wardrobe space, the room was furnished in very dark navy striped walls, which were not to my...

We stayed 3 nights here. The staff is friendly and the hotel is lovely. Concierge speaks English and is quite helpful. They provide city maps with all of the sites marked. Dinner suggestions were great. The room was small, but enough room for bags, etc. The bed was comfortable. CNN is the only English channel but no big deal there. The...

Location is everything and that would certainly apply to this centrally located property in Kyoto within walking distance of many area attractions, shopping and restaurants. You cannot beat the convenience. Front desk staff was attentive and determined to please especially after I removed my passport from my travel bag covered in melted chocolate! Common areas are compact and so are...

Stayed here with our 2 young kids. We were upgraded to a king bed, which was larger than a king. Plenty of room for all 4 of us to cuddle in. The room was a little tight between suitcases and the huge bed. The hotel was very average, nothing exceptional, but nice enough. Clean enough, decor was nice but not...

We stayed at the king bedroom and i've never seen a bed this big! See the pictures for yourself. The bed took almost the total space of the room :) It's modern and nice and clean. The air-conditioner works well and the water is really strong. The staff are helpful and efficient and speak english well. The location is a...

This is a good hotel and has large rooms compared to other Japanese hotels. The place is neat and clean. The staff are helpful. Location is good. Wifi is shocking. Overall good place. It has a nice cafe you can go to after a long day but the coffee is average. Thanks

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
