Nestled in a prime location, Hyatt Regency Kyoto is lauded by many travelers for its easy access to public transit and local attractions, all while offering a quiet retreat for a restful night's sleep. Guests are charmed by the serene, minimalist Zen decor, though the praise is occasionally tempered by comments on noise levels and room furnishings. The hotel location is good, a short 5 minutes walk to the subway and it's a couple of stops to Gion station the main shopping area (department stores, Gion, Pontocho). Taxis are cheap so you can get a ride to nearby kiyomizu dera temple or fushimi inari in 10-15 minutes from the hotel. The hotel provides complimentary taxi service from kyoto train station (where we arrived by Shinkansen) to the hotel - you need to cross the road after exiting Hachijo west exit to the Ibis where the taxis are located.
The gentleman at the front desk who checked us in on 13Feb noon was extremely friendly, professional and welcoming. We managed to get an early check-in into our balcony deluxe room which was bigger than expected; as it had another adjoining room with 2 beds and a toilet. The room was huge and cosy. The large bathroom with the bath tub was amazing. The only down side was that the room faced the road so you could hear traffic, but it was not too bad. The daily breakfast was another highlight of our stay. The service staff were extremely attentive and professional (special mention to the gentleman who was at the coffee area). The food was great and it was an exceptionally memorable experience seeing snow fall in a quiet garden whilst having breakfast. The lady at the concierge was also friendly and knowledgeable.
Overall, the hotel staff made this stay an impressive one. It really made the guest feel at home and valued. I can't wait to be back!

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel over the Christmas holidays. The hotel is a short taxi ride from the train station. We arrived too late to take advantage of the complimentary taxi, but when we checked in we were offered a complimentary taxi on our return trip to the station. That was so nice of them! Rooms are a bit on the small side, but really comfortable beds and pillows and the sheets and towels were very soft. Nice updated bathroom with tub and walk-in shower combo.

Our one complaint is the food is very expensive at this hotel. Our room didn't include breakfast and when we went down to check out our options, it was about $35 USD for the breakfast buffet or the Japanese breakfast. All of the hotel restaurants were very pricey and there were no reasonably priced options, i.e. most hotels in the US will have some expensive restaurants and a more reasonably priced coffee shop type restaurant, but at the Hyatt Regency Kyoto, all of the restaurants were quite expensive compared to the prices outside the hotel. One night, we took a cab back to the train station to check out the ramen floor (really good ramen) and our dinners for 3 people plus 2 taxi rides were about half the price of one entree at one of the hotel restaurants. So my suggestion would be to have a reasonably priced family restaurant on the premises. That way, you will keep more guests on site for meals.

Do check out the maiko show. It's free and there aren't many other opportunities to see maiko or geisha in Kyoto. The hotel offers free drinks (wine, juice or sparkling water), which is a really nice touch. Afterwards, you can take a photo with the maiko.

We would definitely stay here again even it's a bit further from the attractions. It's a great hotel with great service and we really appreciated the non-smoking rooms and hotel. Well done, Hyatt.

Dear Girlstar128, Thank you very much indeed for sharing your recent stay and dining experiences at Hyatt Regency Kyoto with fellow TripAdvisor followers. We are most grateful that you enjoyed and had great experience at our hotel. I am pleased to read you were satisfied with the comfort of our guest room with nice and clean. Also, you found our service to be of very high quality. Chef Marco and I are very sorry to hear you found our restaurants are too expensive including breakfast. We have shared your feedback with our culinary and service teams to ensure we deliver very good products and experiences that are value for money and appreciated. Thank you for highlighting our unique event Maiko performance, not many other opportunities to see and take photos with Maiko in Kyoto. We are blessed to have such a small touch to our customers. We do hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to Hyatt Regency Kyoto should your future travels bring you this way. With kind regards and once again, thank you for the feedback. Kyoto is an amazing city and this is the perfect place to relax after a long day of sightseeing. The hotel's design, both inside and out, create an immediate sense of calm and tranquility. I loved gazing out the window over breakfast enjoying the views of the garden and raked gravel.

The rooms were very comfortable and well designed. We got a great night's sleep every night. The muted color scheme and bamboo finishes really give this properly a welcoming feel.

During our stay, we visited the Japanese restaurant and the bar, both of which were great. I'm usually skeptical of hotel bar pricing, but they seemed fairly competitive and were certainly cheaper than Tokyo. I really enjoyed trying some of the local sakes. We also got to experience the maiko performance, which was a lovely touch. Breakfast was included with our booking, and it featured a fantastic selection of Eastern and Western dining options. I personally enjoyed the pot of green tea every morning.

I highly recommend taking advantage of the free taxi service from Kyoto station. This was an amazing perk in my opinion. It was a little hard to find the taxi station after we got off the train, but we got there in the end. It's actually across the street from the train station.

The service was impeccable. Everyone was incredibly helpful and kind.

There are tons of amenities on the property. I wasn't able to get to all of them, but I did manage to get to the spa for an amazing shiatsu message. It was just what I needed after 4 days on my feet.

Wonderful hotel with impeccable service. The concierge was very helpful and the staff were very friendly and attentive. We loved the Maiko performance and went every night. We felt so lucky that they had this beautiful performance for us to enjoy. Fresh coffee is provided in the morning outside the front door to start your day off. There is the most amazing hot chocolate in their bakery. There’s also a great bakery just 400 meters away called Bake House Inoue. The hotel is in a fantastic location and is close to a lot of different sites but if you’re not up to walking the bus stops out front or even easier there’s always a cab waiting to take you to the different sites. People make mention of the rooms being small but that didn’t bother me as it felt like a cozy place with an amazing soaking tub.

The Hyatt is a modern hotel with large rooms and attentive staff. The rooms are traditional (low bed, separated bath and shower head) and the beds comfortable. We booked a deluxe king room and there was plenty a room for a sofa turned sofa bed for our daughter. There is limited closet and drawer space — we were keeping things in my luggage and we are light packers. The biggest drawback for walkers is the location which is a healthy 30 minute walk from either the city center or the historical district. There is a convenient subway about a 10 minute walk away but at night everyone seems to direct you to a cab which makes the bills add up. Despite the distance, the hotel is still on a fairly main street. So, great rooms, wonderful staff, but depending on what you plan to do in the city the location may not be ideal.

Coming from the US, I was not prepared for just how different it is in Japan with regard to hospitality. The difference is very noticeable, and very much appreciated. Nick Van Der Werff started by reaching out to me before I arrived, and pointed out amenities that were very helpful for my stay. He made sure to find me and introduce himself at breakfast, which was very nice to put a face to the excellent service he provided. Jun Taguchi made the check-in process very easy, and very informative. Jun also made it a point to swap out pens for sanitized pens after my traveling companion had touched one. This definitely reinforced the fact that Kyoto Hyatt Regency was doing all they could to make my stay as safe as possible. After check-in, Toru Kume introduced himself, welcomed us, and presented me with his card in case I needed anything. It was almost embarrassing how well I was treated, but this is meant as the highest compliment, and not a negative. The concierge was outstanding assisting us with dinner reservations. Our breakfast was not only delicious, but it was the first buffet I've been able to enjoy since Covid started over a year ago, and our server was outstanding. All around it was a very impressive stay, even though it was just one night. I hope to bring my family to Japan sometime soon. If I do, we would definitely choose the Kyoto Hyatt Regency for our stay.

I loved this hotel and want to return as soon as possible. The lobby is stunning, the view of the little Japanese garden when having breakfast adds to the atmosphere, and the staff are outstanding. I should also mention the great cappuccinos one can order for breakfast.
In particular we loved the location. The National Museum is right opposite the hotel and the fascinating Sanjusangendo temple with 1000 ancient statues is right next door. After breakfast we walked 2 minutes to the temple and we were first in line. Indeed our room overlooked the temple gardens with its orange trees.
The Maiko dancing every night at 6.15 was a total treat. We didn’t miss a night no matter how tired we were from touring. The various Maikos posed for pictures with us (which our grandchildren had requested), and also answered our questions with a hotel translator helping us. The hotel also provided everyone with a glass of sparkling wine to sip as the Maiko danced
Our bedroom itself was most attractive, albeit small, although that is to be expected in Japan. Finally we were particularly impressed with the concierge. She sat at a desk in a calm, beautiful library off the foyer. There were exceptional books ranging from Kyoto guidebooks to an academic book on Haiku which she gladly let me borrow and take to my room. On our last day she spent a solid 40 minutes with my husband as we needed to change a flight. The service she provided was beyond expectation.

Hyatt Regency Kyoto is always highly recommended when people want to enjoy staying in Kyoto. It’s always clean and quiet but each room has a little Kyoto ambience you can relax and rest well. The elevator is super small but convenient and clean, corridors are long depending on the location of room but everywhere, you see and feel serenity, the ultimate theme of Kyoto’s harmony at the hotel.

Mainly paying for the location and concierge, who was very knowledgeable and helpful. However, the rest of the service staff is very inconsistent. On several occassions no one at the front desk or room service picked up the phone. Whilst waiting for help with our luggage at checkout, we were called by the front desk to see whether we would check out of time. This was odd because they knew we were waiting for help. The staff were also unsure where I could go to do currency exchange within the hotel. Lastly, the carpets need a deep clean to remove visible stains.

My wife and I spent two nights at Hyatt, me for business and my wife for vacation. We both felt very welcomed by the staff. Concierge helped us book two places in Kyoto and they both exceeded our expectations. My wife toured Kyoto on her own and she received helpful advice from concierge. The hotel throughout is decorated in great details in modern Kyoto aesthetics incorporating comfort and cleanliness. Right outside hotel there is a bus stop and a subway station with an easy walk (or 18 minutes to Kyoto Station). It's an excellent choice for staying in Kyoto.
