We booked a renovated triple room (only one available at the time of booking) for my wife and I and our daughter. As expected in Japan the room was small but the fact that the hotel had squeezed a fold away bed into a twin room meant that there was no room for our luggage. The room did not have...

Be aware that this hotel does not offer services like taking your luggage to your room and collecting and returning laundry to your room. The breakfast was reasonably ordinary, but the staff were delightful. Not in the best location for walking to places, and the on site restaurant is not open for dinner. However you are a $10 cab ride...

The hotel staff were very helpful. The location is good and pretty convenient, just have to learn how to use public transportation. The room is good size for Japanese hotel. However, there is no vent in the bathroom. The hotel has a Japanese style spa which is a very interesting NEW experience (taking a bath with other hotel guests in...

This hotel is a reasonable bet when in Kyoto. The location is not in the heart of it all but at the same time we could walk to the Gion area within 15 minutes and there was a subway 2 mins away from the hotel. The area around the hotel is pretty dead but as I said you can walk...

We have 3 persons in 1 room. Room space is okay, we could open our luggage. It's close to "Gojo" subway station, walking for 2 minutes. Breakfast tastes very good, they have 2 types of it. West style and Japan style plus home made jam. Staff is very friendly and service is good. Our room is on the 12 floor....

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
