Stayed at the Westin Miyako Kyoto for 4 nights and it was a great home base for exploring Kyoto as well as Osaka. Kyoto is a little difficult to explore due to the lack of subways and trains and the congested traffic so no matter where you stay, expect to spend quite a bit of time traveling between all the...

I was given an old room for this stay. Small, cramp, totally unlike other Westin properties I've stayed in. The bathroom was alright, but I was expecting much better. Everything was clean and the hotel service staff were generally pleasant, but the room was pure letdown. The location was so so. There was a shuttle bus to Gion and Kyoto...

I travel to Kyoto about 8 times a year and have stayed in this hotel a number of times. Experiences have been mixed. So, I am avoiding it now. Overall this is a very nice hotel. It is a bit out of the way, but the location is beautiful near the mountains and it's a quiet place in Kyoto away...

I want to generally praise the Westin in the wake of our four-night stay (combo of points and $$ nights) in early November. My wife and I were lucky enough to get a suite since I'm a Starwood Platinum (which gave us a shot at the upgrade but no guarantee), but assuming a regular room is half the size of...

My wife and stayed here for 3 nights during the end of December. The hotel lobby, is beautiful. I had come by car so it was not the first thing I saw, but upon entering the lobby, I really admired the art and design of the entire lobby. Check in was smooth, and I found the front staff to be...

I enjoyed my stay. Ate at the restauraunt for dinner and was satisfied. Also took part in a tea cerimony. The grounds have both Japanese and Western style rooms. Location was in quieter part of Kyoto but suited me well.

Kyoto is such a glorious city and this hotel really tops it off! It's location is great, the service is exeptional and it is so clean and comfortable. The kings bed we had was so devine and I had such good sleeps in it, I didn't want to leave! The breakfast was pleasant also! 10 out of 10!

The Westin offers very comfortable and reasonably spacious rooms. All staff from check in to room service are very friendly and go out of their way to help you. The hotel runs shuttles to the main station every 30 mins with stops at the two main attractions along the way. The hotel is in a quiet area with beautiful views...

For the most part I enjoyed my 6 night stay at the Westin. The hotel is a central part of Kyoto's wedding and ladys lunching scene and the lobby's life and design gives you the feeling of a grand hotel. The hotel's location, next to a subway station and in the heart of Higashiyama is a great base to explore...

We booked a club level room for 5 nights with points. The lounge access and option of free breakfast in the restaurant was well worth the 1,500 additional points per night. We liked the hotel location. A number of sites were within easy walking distance. We were lucky enough to be there during the light up festival and 2 of...

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
