The Kyoto Century Hotel offers a unique blend of chic and luxurious touches, though some areas may appear a tad outdated. Proximity to Kyoto Station makes it a hit for easy access to transport and dining, as noted by numerous guests. Opinions on value and amenities diverge, with some finding the hotel reasonable and others wanting more for their money.
Service is generally well-regarded for its friendly staff, despite occasional inefficiencies. Rooms receive mixed reviews regarding size and modernity, and while cleanliness is typically praised, a deeper clean is sometimes suggested.

The 79m2 garden suite was full, but the next day there was no room available, so I stayed in a 59m2 modern suite.
79m2 garden suite. The room has a bed, living room, and dining room, but they are not separated by walls. There is also a counter with a minibar sink next to the dining table. Personally, I almost never use a dining room that is separated from the other rooms, except when inviting people from outside, so I thought this one-room studio type was very convenient. The bathroom was spacious, with a double vanity, the faucet was antique-style, as you would expect in a historic hotel, and the bathtub with a washing area was perfect. Outside the window was a Japanese garden, which gave it a Kyoto feel. (You couldn't go outside, just to ensure privacy from Kyoto Station) The only disappointing thing was that you could hear a lot of train noise. But it was tolerable. I guess it would bother some people.
59m2 modern suite. This room was a modern design with the dining room section cut out of yesterday's room. The bathroom area was the same. The garden suite was on the third floor, while this was on the top floor (I think) on the 10th floor. It was spacious enough.
All the staff were cheerful and seemed to greet everyone thoroughly.
As it is a large hotel in front of the station (it is connected to the Thousand Kyoto Hotel in the same chain), it tends to attract large groups from overseas, and the bilingual staff seem to be working hard.
The breakfast buffet was surprisingly delicious, as I wasn't expecting typical Kyoto items like pickles, hot tofu, and grilled fish. Everything else was neither good nor bad.
They also offered a sake tasting in the morning.
The table arrangement was a little narrow, so it seemed like you would bump into people sitting down if you walked around with a tray.

Located very conveniently close to Kyoto central station. We were staying for 6 nights in Kyoto, so this was especially convenient for us. This hotel has a very grand dining room and we ate our inclusive breakfast here every morning. There was a good choice between Japanese and European breakfast styles, all provided in a buffet format. Our room was one of the better ones - a premium twin room 30 sq m, and although the room was nice we found it rather cramped. Following discussion with a very helpful reception team member, we paid extra and upgraded to a modern suite room, 59sq m which was much more to our liking for a 6 night stay. Overall, this was an excellent hotel, and certainly high on the options list if you want somewhere convenient to the central station in order to see Kyoto and surrounding areas.

This is not the most modern hotel and while rooms are old they are still functional. But let’s face it, in Kyoto you don’t spend much time in the hotel! The location of this hotel is literally an alleyway across from the station which links you anywhere in the city (bus or train). It is the perfect place to come/go and there are so many food options downstairs in the station to keep anyone happy

Rooms have big comfy beds but the rooms are cramped with very limited storage space. Bathroom is also very cramped with no room for the wash hand basin which is in the bedroom with a separating curtain. However it does have a good separate shower unlike other hotels we stayed at in Japan. Buffet breakfast is poorly organised and often very crowded. Constantly running out of things. On the plus side the hotel is very well located immediately next to Kyoto station and shopping and eating areas. Had one evening meal in the hotel from the so called la carte menu but it was effectively only a range of snacks. Hotel does a buffet evening meal but you have to be there for either the 5.30 or 7.30 slot otherwise the buffet is not available. Expensive drinks in the restaurant and in the Essex bar where they charge 500¥ per head table charge. Essex bar has nice atmosphere but prices are off putting when lots of much cheaper bars and restaurants nearby. Stayed 4 nights which was probably 3 nights too long.

The best thing about the hotel is that it's located next to Kyoto Station for quick train access. Unfortunately this also makes it a little far from central Kyoto I didn't like the strict 3 pm check-in. We arrived at 2 pm and before even checking our reservation, we were told to just leave our bags and come back later. While they took all of our check-in info, when we returned we had to provide again. Check-in is done in front of the reception counter via a terminal and QR code (even though reception is fully staffed). I thought this a rather impersonal touch. The layout of the room was a bit awkward with the bathroom sink/vaniry in the main room. The shower was not enclosed completely so water overflowed near the toilet area. For some 'design' reason, there was a large window in the bathroom looking onto the bed area (it had a blind for privacy). Also having to pick up any amenity items in the lobby near the elevators (toothpaste, tooth brush, etc) was again strange for me. For the price, it just wasn't up to par with hotels like the Okura or Blossom. We stayed here for 1 night as to get the train to Kansai Airport more easily. I'm glad that I didn't book for longer.

The location was good, right next to the station. However, the entrance was hard to find. I arrived a little earlier than check-in time, but still couldn't get into my room. The price was reasonable and the breakfast buffet had a wide variety of items. I was surprised to see that they offered 3 types of sake tasting in the morning. However, the room was not very spacious. The TV was mounted on the wall and couldn't be moved, so it was difficult to see from the sofa. The hair dryer was a Panasonic Nano IKEA, which was a plus point. I would like to use it again when I visit Kyoto.

A lovely hotel perfectly positioned next to Kyoto train station. Beds were very comfortable and large. Pillows were unusual with heavy wheat on one side and normal pillow on other, but I still slept well. Check in was easy, and we were able to check in a little early which was appreciated. The only let down (and the reason the hotel did not score 5/5) was the chaotic breakfast. When busy they give you a number and you need to wait for table, but even worse are the long queues for the food, especially the coffee machine which is positioned right in the middle of the food queue and this caused most of the chaos. A potential solution would be to move the coffee machines to a separate bench AND have a hot water earn for tea drinkers, as we also had to queue for coffee machine just to get hot water. Apart from this though, I highly recommend and would definitely stay again. Staff were amazing and friendly (and very apologetic about breakfast wait times).

After a long flight and transfer from Osaka airport, we were told that we have a booking for 3 nights with 2 single beds and 2 nights with one bed despite our confirmation from this hotel for 5 nights, 2 people, 2 twin beds. They wanted to relocate us or cancel our reservation. They spoke very poor English and were not able to contact an Agoda agent. We had to do it. It took us 2 hours to get checked in and only since we insisted and got the manager out to help us. After all this the agent who was smiling and so sorry, while I was almost in tears apologized and offered some discounts for the hotel bar. The discounts proved absolutely worthless. Nobody spoke semi decent English, not in the reception, not in the bar or the restaurant. Also at the check in we were asked if we wanted to have our room cleaned and then it was not cleaned for 2 days despite our repeat request for fresh towels at least. Location was great, views from window terrible. Food in the restaurant mediocre, food in the bar very bad. The hotel staff is understaffed, it is not friendly and capable, it is very rigid and unwelcoming. Definitely we are not coming back.

We stayed at Century Kyoto Hotel for four nights (12-16 October 2024). It was our first time in Kyoto, so we wanted to stay somewhere close to Kyoto Station to catch the Shinkansen. Overall, it was an excellent accommodation.
Positive · The hotel is located just opposite Kyoto station, but it is extremely difficult if you don’t come out to come out from the right exit. Otherwise, you get lost as we did. · Breakfast was super. Lunch and dinner also seemed great, offering different cultural cuisines. · Our room was overlooking Kyoto Station, so it was pleasant to view the arrival and departure of the Shinkansen every 5 minutes. The room on level 8 was quite large and very comfortable. · Restaurants, Family Mart, and a shopping mall are within walking distance of the hotel.
Negative I was not impressed with the check-in, which took a long time. I had to check in the available machine myself, which is located where the concierge is. After a tiring trip from Tokyo to Kyoto and trying to find the hotel from the station, the last thing on my mind was self-check-in. The staff serving me was not very helpful, which was odd from my experience of Japanese hospitality service. Perhaps he was having a bad day or was towards the end of his shift.

The hotel is conveniently situated opposite Kyoto railway station. The standard double room was clean and spacious with a comfortable bed. Breakfast was not taken but an evening buffet meal was excellent value for money with a wide choice of food. Staff, without exception, were friendly and we were always greeted with a smile and a courteous bow as is customary. On arrival at 8pm, we realised that we had mislaid a suitcase either in the taxi or at Osaka Airport (a 90 minutes drive away!). The concierge, Fumie Nakagaki, went out of her way to help us although her shift was almost finished. She rang the taxi company and the Airport Lost and Found whilst we waited in our room. She rang two hours later to say that the case had indeed been left in the airport's customs area and arranged a taxi for us at 10pm to go and pick it up. A costly mistake by us but at least we had the case containing important documents. Not the best start to our time in Japan but we are very grateful to this young lady for her invaluable assistance and interest for she rang the following morning to ask whether everything was OK. Excellent customer service.

I don’t believe so. I did find an unpublicised, drinks and ice machine in the floor below the lobby and I think that’s where it would have been. It was our first stop so didn’t need to do laundry.

I am sure they can accommodate your need since while we were there, one of the tour guest request vegan breakfast and the manager specially prepared for her. You'll have to put in the request when you do the booking & once you check in then ask to speak with the dinning room manager. If you are a schedule in the morning you'll inform them what time you'll take your breakfast otherwise they won't have the breakfast on time
Totally worth it especially with children (we had our 15 mo old with us). When we stayed in Kyoto it cost us 800 yen per luggage to forward it to another hotel in Kyoto. From Kyoto to Kansai International, it cost 2700 yen per luggage. They can send your luggage pretty much anywhere, just be aware of time (ie, if you're forwarding it to somewhere farther away, you might have to give your luggage a day or more ahead of when you expect to arrive at your next destination). Also let the place that will be receiving it know that you're luggage will be sent to them.
There are more places to choose from in the Kyoto area.
