It is indeed value for money. Great location, about 200m to Kiyomizu Gojo Keihan station; we reach this station from Nara , without having to go to Kyoto staion. There is a bus stop across the road with buses to Kyoto station;on the same side of the road is Kawaramachi Gojo bus stop, buses from Kyoto station pass by here;...

I have to say the stay at this hotel was not very good. This is mostly because: -Dirty room: It was full of dust under the bed when we tried to look for something there. -Not very convenient location: you will need to take a bus to go most of the places such as famous temples or Kyoto station. I...

I went here slightly apprehensively, having read some of the reviews here. I was relieved to find a perfectly acceptable hotel. I think with cheap hotels like this, a lot depends on what you pay and what your expectations are. I didn't exactly expect a Four Seasons hotel, but I do expect cleanliness and safety and a certain degree of...

We chose this hotel because it's quite affordable and looked ok. We were very pleasantly surprised. The rooms are great, western style with everything you expect. The staff speaks English and is incredibly friendly. There's free internet. There is a bus stop right in front of the door from which you can get to all the sites in Kyoto. Highly...

Though the rate I get is higher then 25 pounds per night, it is significantly lower than the one of Granvia at the time of my stay. The hotel is 1 to 4 bus stop away from the Kyoto station (depends on the bus one takes). Gion is within walking distance (10 to 15 minutes). Location is not too good...

Generally you get what you pay for, and at less than 6,000 yen (about 25 pounds) per night, including a buffet breakfast, I wasn`t expecting much from the Rich Hotel. There are some negatives about this place - the rooms are very worn, the furniture is old, and mine smelled of stale cigarette smoke, but the bed linen was very...

A group of us had stayed here and it was horrible. The Hotel we very dirty. There were stains on the walls, ripped carpets, ripped and stained mattresses. Mind you, we had about 8 rooms between all of us and all of the room were like this. Two girls (who shared the same room) had bed bug bits all over...

Staying in Kyoto can be expensive. The Rich Hotel is a reasonable alternative if you just want a business-style, hotel room for the night. The hardest part was just finding the place, because the map listed on their webpage is a little too simplified and google map identified the wrong location. So, directions are listed below, followed by a few...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
