The staff here are very nice, friendly and helpful. Our rooms were fairly basic and we were quite cold (visited in March). As always in the hotels we stayed in in Japan, the rooms are clean and comfortable. The breakfast was also basic but very tasty. This was a good value hotel in a nice location in Kyoto.

Very near the subway line, so it was easy to travel out to other places, hop on the subway to Kyoto station and then the Shinkansen. Near downtown Kyoto, walking distance to Gion plus the food alley - no shortage of food options nearby. Staff are welcoming, clean rooms. No laundry here, nearest is 10 mins walk away and can...

My friend and I had an amazing stay at this hotel. It was my friend's birthday so they kindly upgraded our room (and even gave some cute gifts). The location was perfect - close to public transport and the Gion area. The staff were very friendly and always accommodating. Breakfast was simple but good. It was mainly a Japanese breakfast...

Hana has great access to transport, shopping, restaurants and near to both Gion and midtown. Staff are friendly and helpful, the rooms are well equipped. There is a coffee machine for use during breakfast and some part of the day, and Wi-Fi is good. Lots of food is supplied at breakfast but it's repetitive. I suggest that if you are...

Short version: spacious and spotlessly clean rooms, very friendly staff, probably the best location in Kyoto, turned out to be amazing value. Long version: The twin room that I ended up in was very spacious (the biggest room I had in a major city in Japan) and was spotlessly clean. The staff were also the friendliest I encountered in a...

We stayed here on a recent trip. The hotel was in very convenient location for metro train, less than 2 mins walking. It was also very close to the shops and restaurant in Kyoto. Very clean rooms. The staff at the hotel are very helpful and polite. If I want to be picky, the only recommendation I have is for...

We stayed for 4 nights in the 'Hana' room, which was smallish but with a nice view from your private balcony. The hotel is conveniently located near the Sanjo tube station and is walking distance from Gion and downtown Kyoto. The staff is very friendly and will help any way possible, their English is limited but this is not a...

Friendly, helpful staff. Good location near subway and bus stops, not far from restaurant district along the Kamo-gawa (the north/south river) and a stop or so north of the Gion district. Decently-sized, clean room for which we paid around $150/night (breakfast not included) via Orbitz. You can go running along the river...that was nice.

This is a comfortable business-type hotel with no frills in a convenient central location of the city close to the Kama River and the main downtown shopping district. A train station is only a 2-3 min walk from the hotel connecting you to Arashiyama, Osaka or other areas of Kyoto. The beds were comfortable and the showers were good; everything...

We had a very good time in Kyoto, for us, it was a very good decision to choose Kyoto Hana for 6 days trip. The raliway and subway station are just nearby. It is very convenience for us to go to Osaka and nara. Meanwhie, the bus station is also located within one minute by foot. You can calculate your...

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
