Located on a neat little old pedestrian only street in the heart of Gion. This Ryokan has only 2 suites. We stayed in the first floor suite which had a small kitchen, living area with western style seating, a dining room with Japanese seating, a second smaller sitting room overlooking a little outdoor garden, a nice size bedroom and a...

We stayed at this Ryokan for 3 days. We had picked the suite Bousen in the "main house" of this roykan I highly recommend it. I think the 2 suites in the main house are more interesting than their Annex. The experience in this room is fabulous. It is designed to be a mix of tatami rooms and a western...

It was located strategically in the traditional area of Higashiyama and walking distance to the famous Kiyomizu-dera and Gion Corner. The old neighborhood to Kiyomizu-dera delivered a fascinating experience but too crowded with tourists. The ryokan is a bit difficult to reach by public transport so I'd recommend to take a taxi to Kyoto Station, it only costs ¥1200 per...

Ryogin is located at the heart of Gion at the end of a very narrow historic path The building makes use of raw concrete and wood in a very elegant way and reunite the past and modern japan Our room was located at the second floor and calling it a room does not give justice to the place, it was...

Kozaki is a great host who made our stay in Kyoto as smooth and comfortable as possible. The room is very traditional and well designed, and the small details such as the skin care sets that were provided are extraordinary. The location is wonderful as well. We enjoyed our trip in Kyoto and will come back again soon.

Second visit to this great ryokan in th Gion districts. Only two rooms (or rather large appartments) in this ryokan. Fantastic rooms with huge beds. Downstairs is a great small restaurant. I am surprised that it has not been awarded one or two Michelin stars yet.

We had a two bedroom apartment with a western living room, dining room and pantry , a Japanese living room and window area, a mediation room and two bedrooms. The bedrooms had very comfortable beds but there was one large bathroom to share. The bath area had a lovely Jacuzzi. One could use the Onsen in the adjoining parent hotel...

Oh what a pleasant and traditional stay. Loved the Japanese ryokan experience, view of the the little garden from the room, sleeping on the floor, sightings of geishas & rickshaws on the streets. Restaurant downstairs was exceptional. The modern automatic Japanese toilet (with light inside, no kidding) was also exceptional. We stayed as a family and loved exploring the old...

Ryugin is affiliated with the Hatanaka Ryokan and located about 100 m from the south entrance to the Yasaka shrine in the Gion area. It contains two studios, a smaller on the main floor that sleeps four, and then a larger one on the upper floor, and there is a small restaurant in the basement (more about that below). Guests...

An outstanding place to stay in Kyoto. Two large suites in classic japanese style but with large "western" style beds. Excellent restaurant in the basement. There should be an extra sixth star for this place.
