We had 3 nights here, 3 in a room. It is a good base for Kyoto, very handy for the rail station which is just around the corner. Room is a bit small, with a small bathroom, but it served its purpose. Plenty to eat and drink around the hotel. We never ate in the hotel. Its a standard hotel...

I stayed at the Kyoto Tower Hotel Annex for one night and was very impressed. Admittedly, on first impressions I found the room to be very small, but actually it was very cosy and homely. I had booked a single room but found I had been given a twin room which was a nice surprise. The rooms also have a...

The location next to Kyoto station is great for getting around to the sites. Also, the station itself has a lot of options for eating. The room was small, and not nice by any means, but our experience was good. The bathroom looked like what they have on cruise ships, and the bedding wasn't great. We had a nice window...

Good thing about the hotel is it is near Kyoto station and Yodobashi is right across street. (well almost). Other then that it was way below expectations. The hotel could do with some room refurbishment. Although the bathroom was clean, there was a faint urine smell. Luckily I stayed there for only one night.

This is my first night in the hotel and it is more like a motel rather than a hotel. As I lie here writing this review I can hear people walking and talking in the hallway. The bathroom is very small with hardly any place to put your personal toiletries. And the bathroom floor is not level with the room...

This hotel is very close to the large train station - convenient; also, there us a post office nearby. The hotel was clean. We had a view of parking lot, but it was quiet for a downtown location. The breakfast was limited, especially for those not eating Japanese food. There are a lot of places to eat at the large...

It's old, not updated and also not very clean. Stains in the bathtub, a permanent "pissy" smell in the smallest bathroom/toilet I have ever seen, stains also on the walls of the restaurant. Yes you get what pay for, you can expect something of an European average pension room in a non-urban area. Not a 3 star hotel though right...

This is a good, clean hotel with an average level of amenity suitable for tourists to Kyoto. This is a 3 - 3.5 star hotel. The rooms are adequate size but the bathroom we had was small, but this is consistent with many hotels in Japan and for a few days easy to adapt to. The hotel is conveniently located...

This is an okay hotel. It was relatively inexpensive and served its purpose for our trip. The staff was friendly and the hotel is really close to the main Kyoto Station. It was a bit cramped for 3 people, but we were not there except for sleeping, so it was fine. The air conditioning was pretty much worthless and the...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
