Just on the bus route (No.4, 17, or 205 ) from JR KYOTO Stn. A2 Bus stop to Kawaramachi-Gojyo. You can walk from Shijyo Street (Kawaramachi, Karasuma, Gion ), takes about 10-15 minute. Room is clean with spotless carpet and bed linen and a little spacious than other newer hotel. I would have prised 5stars if they have turn over,... More

I was pleasantly surprised by this establishment. Fairly decent room size considering that this is a big city in Japan. As expected of a Japanese business hotel, things work well. Just a minor gripe. Check in time is very strict. Hope they can let loose a bit about it.

It is a decent room in downtown Kyoto. Perfect spot to discover the city. Several buslines stop in front of the hotel. You can easily walk to many restaurants in the neighbourhood. Room itself was clean, small bad (and bed) and aircon was working. Staff is friendly and many speak good english.

Sunroute Hotel is located relatively close to a subway station, making it convenient to get around. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We booked a wrong date, but they were happy to bring it forward for us. The room was large and spacious in terms of Japanese standards. A massage chair was even available! Gion district is well within a... More

We stayed here for 4 nights during or Japan trip. The hotel is in a good location, very close to the city centre and many of the sights. The staff are very friendly and helpful and we thought our room was of a good standard. The bathroom is fine but the bath is incredibly small, they may as well have... More

Sunroute was a well-located hotel for our first two nights in Kyoto (we moved to a ryokan after this to experience something more traditional). We were able to access several sights on foot, and trains were not too far to reach when going further afield. Likewise, taxis are easy enough to get from the main road, provided it's not peak... This modern multi storey hotel offers spacious, well equipped rooms. The buffet breakfast is served on the seventh floor with a wonderful view on Kyoto: it is the occasion to taste mostly japanese breakfast dishes with some "western like" ones. The staff is very helpful. The place can be reached with a 10 minutes bus ride from the railway station.... More

We were incredibly happy with our stay. We were here the first three nights of a stay in Japan. The room was larger than most we experienced during the trip. The bed was comfortable and bathroom adequate. The staff were friendly and very helpful despite a bit of a language barrier at times. There are great restaurants within walking distance,... More

I wasn't expecting much for the price I paid but had such a great stay I actually extended my stay. Initially when I went to my room I found it was next to the elevator. I immediately asked to be changed if possible. They gave me an upgrade. The hotel is in a great location with many attractions walkable and... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
