We choose the hotel due to the closeness of the train station for a 3 night stay. We had a room on the 7th floor which was very tiny (no where to leave bags) and with the requirement to leave keys at the front desk, it turned out to be a bit awkward. We had three beds in the room,...

We stayed here for 3 nights to give us time to explore Kyoto & Osaka. The hotel is directly opposite Kyoto train and bus station and below Kyoto tower. Reception is on the 8th floor, the staff were friendly, efficient & spoke good English which helped us! We were located on the 8th floor overlooking the station in a deluxe...

We booked for 4 people and got a massive bedroom that can fit 7 !! Its on level 5, basicly a two room combined, with a modern style Japanese sliding door. Very conveniently located, just opposite JR Station, and opposite bus terminal. This hotel is just 10 mins walk from Shinkansen platform. This is how close it is, one time...

We chose this hotel as it was opposite to rail station along with bus station. Restaurants were around the corner, perfect place for stay with nice view. Easy access for transportation as well as foods.

A bit dated but cheap enough to have a look, the views are good and there's some things around to keep you up there for a while. Around and about are shops and the train station, the hotel has a shopping area and on the second floor is a 100 yen store which sells lots of the same stuff as...

Stayed for two nights, April 5-7, 2017 to see the cherry blossom. The hotel location is about 2-3 minutes walk from the Kyoto Station. Very good location for public transportation to great tourist spots in Kyoto. Room clean and felt safe. One thing not so happy with is the room ventilation (the system is not working properly, hot air out...

Picked this one because it was the only one left available at the time of booking listing 4 stars (about a month out from our trip). Was about $450AUD for one night for a triple room (1A + 2Teens) so thought it would be okay. It was in a good location near the main Kyoto station so we wouldn't get...

We were on our feet the entire two days and really only booked this place to sleep. Right outside the Shinkansen train station and bus terminal. The room was good and the service was good. Wish I had actually looked into what the hotel offered as I believe they do a geisha show and the tower hotel is amazing.... unfortunately...

Stayed at the Kyoto Tower hotel in November 2016. I picked this hotel because there were no Marriott's available (I am a platinum Marriott member) and I wanted something convenient for travel. This hotel is literally across the street from the main train station. The rooms were small but clean and had everything needed. There was a restaurant for morning...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
