Very close to the airport. Proximity to the bus interchange allows you to get to the rest of the old capital sights easily via bus. The rooms were a bit dated but it was clean. Front desk crew were really helpful with what bus to take, food to eat, maps, etc.

We stayed on 8th floor, same floor as the Hotel Lobby concierge. save hassle from taking lift to other floor. Walking across is the Kyoto train and bus station, it's so near. Level one has nice souvenir shops. Same building as the Kyoto Tower. We had discount on Kyoto Tower observation deck ticket since we are staying in Kyoto tower... More

The Kyoto Tower Hotel is directly across from the Kyoto Train Station. While there is a lot of action at the train station, the room was quiet. The room was a reasonable size for Japan but certainly not large. It was clean but could use some updating. The beds were comfortable. The desk staff speaks English and is very responsive.... More

Reception is on the 8th floor whereas rooms are below. Location is great, it's opposite Kyoto Station accessible by the underpass too. This makes going anywhere in Kyoto or other cities convenient. We stayed in a Deluxe Family Room which could accommodate 6 and still be spacious. There were 2 bathrooms in the room which is good and saves time.... More

Just to echo what everyone else said about location - right across Kyoto Station, lots of taxis, lots of buses that connect to major sights, Isetan Dept store , tourist information and lots of nice eating places below the station and many souvenir shops selling Kyoto goodies. You will not go hungry. No need to eat at the hotel restaurant... More

The hotel is only a short stroll from the station and is very close to shops and food, however the room is very small and very cramped. The room was clean but nothing special. The room does not give free bottle of water but instead had drinking taps which you can fill up your own bottle - that was really... More

This was booked as it is close to the railway for access. There was no street or rail noise. The rooms are tight but very clean. A lack of storage space. The buffet breakfast is brilliant with both Asian and Western foods including champagne and juice as you entered. There is a public bath house in the basement if you... More

My stay was booked as part of a group tour. Location is across the road from the train station and bus terminals, you couldn't find a more convenient place to stay. Rooms were quite spacious and well appointed. Dining room food was great and the room had a nice ambience as a meeting point for our group. There are department... More

First impression wasn't good. Getting off at Kyoto station, looking at Kyoto Tower, it looked really old. It was just across the street from Kyoto station. Checking in was smooth, we were given a room immediately, service from the front desk was friendly and efficient. The room. My wife and I got a twin room. We were surprised to get... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
