Stayed here for 4 nights as a part of a work conference. The rooms were a good size with decent sized beds and large bathrooms. Breakfast was included which served both traditional and western options. Whilst I love Japanese food, it was nice to have eggs, toast and fruit in the morning. The hotel is perhaps a little dated but...

Okura Kyoto should make more advertisement on their services. It is very awkward when you have such service but the guests have no idea, let alone use the services and enjoy the benefit. If I have have known it before going there, we would not be so exhausted upon arrival. Free shuttle bus from JR Kyoto to the hotel. Even...

This is a beautiful hotel in downtown Kyoto. The room itself was small, but with very enjoyable touches (origami crane and turtle, map of hills and landmarks visible from room). Although I wasn't really prepared for the toilet experience, this was actually one of the sensual highlights of the stay. (If you have been able to experience *all* of the...

Great location and the service of the staff is amazing. So kind and helpful. Lots of good restaurants in the building and roughly 1 block from the huge shopping street. Easy to walk over at night to shop and eat.

Stayed here in February 2017. This was ostensibly a luxurious hotel, and it impressed that fact from the moment we stepped into the spacious marbled lobby till the time we bade goodbye to the hotel. The hotel was located next to the unmissable Kyoto City Hall building. The nearest subway station was Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae which was on the Tozai line,...

Perhaps one of the high end hotels of Kyoto, great lobby, but the rooms are tiny. Service is fine. Problem is with connectivity. Far away from the hub, Kyoto station. Difficult to go anywhere without taxi.

My husband and I went on a group tour trip to Kansai and they put us up at the Kyoto Hotel Okura for a night. It is really well located, a short drive from Gion, and the service is impeccable. Staff were very kind and knowledgeable. Breakfast was delicious too.

We stayed at this hotel as part of a tour group and we were not disappointed. Its rooms were very comfortable and the bathroom amenities more than adequate. There was good wifi connection - as with all the places that we stayed in Japan. Staff were more than helpful. It is well situated to walk to many of the sights...

Before I get to the particulars of our stay here is why you want to stay here. First, they have a free shuttle from Kyoto station to their hotel. You can get the information on the website. I only discovered that about three days before our trip so it is easy to miss. If you want to sightsee you can...

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
