This hotel had wonderful, attentive staff and the location was perfect. Bus stops across the street and a metro station next door. Tons of shopping and markets nearby, close to main attractions/sights and easy to take a train/bus to Arashiyama. The rooms were clean but definitely could use an update

A budget hotel situated above the Starbucks coffee shop. The Japanese hospitality is evident right from the hotel entrance. Greeting and pleasantries are usual at the reception and will be escorted to our room. The breakfast will be served at the Starbucks cafe below. The train and bus station is at a walkable distance. There is a McDonald's joint just...

We stayed 3 nights at the central inn Kyoto, which is very centrally located, 1 minute away from the Subway and 30 seconds away from bus stops and also cheap (80 USD per night). The bedrooms and bathrooms are very small (would recommend a 2-bed-room). This being said, service was very helpful and staff's English was rather good.

This inn is very clean eventhough it is a little bit outdated. The location is very convenient, just a stonethrow away to bus stop or to the subway station, and below the inn you could walk along the street to Shin-kyogoku for shopping. There are some money changer near the inn, but the best rate is the one near McDonald....

We were pleased with our 2 night stay here. It is in a very convenient location, close to the subway and bus stops and walking distance to Gion. Staff were friendly and responded quickly when I emailed with a query about my booking. The rooms were clean and the bathroom was small but adequate. There is a free washing machine...

Hotel itself is centrally located in the heart of shopping area, close to Ponto Cho street, Gion and Food market. Many restaurant are available around the hotel. However, my room was facing the Starbucks roof with all the airconditioners and noise they are producing. Staff at the reception could hardly speak other language than Japanese and therefore was not too...

Very satisfied with my recent stay at Kyoto Central Inn! It was directly beside Starbucks (the best matcha in town and our daily boost!) and Kawaramachi subway station. There is a Kyoto tourist information inside the subway with very friendly english-speaking personnel to assist tourists. And their help was precise! :) Getting to the sightseeing places with little or zero...

Surprisingly good laocation.Within on minute walk from the Shijyokawaramachi crossing,no other hotels are located better than this hotel. Just on the Kawaramachi Station of Hankyu Line, taking train is very easy, and the hotel being along Shijyo Street that is the most important street for sightseeing, you can take many routes of bus.Shijyokawaramachi is the center of Kyoto, so there are...

I stayed at Kyoto Central Inn for three nights and the experience was all positive. For a single traveller, my room was big enough. The bathroom was clean, so was the bed. A great plus for travelers is the possibility to use the laundry at anytime of the day for free. All staff I dealt with were very friendly and...

Staying in Shinkyogoku Shopping District

Neighbourhood Profile
Shinkyogoku Shopping District
Those who delight in shopping and cuisine will find themselves at home in Shinkyogoku. Lauded and visited by locals for its Nishiki Market, where baskets of fragrant spices, dried fish, and just-fried foods are piled high along the snaking streets of its enclosed outdoor shopping spaces, Shinkyogoku is not only a hub for fresh fare, but also for fast fashion fixes. Trends-in-the-making can be spotted in the tall windows of several one-of-a-kind stores featuring local labels and modish boutiques. Arcades, outdoor concert spaces, mega department stores, and small, enchanting cafes have sprung up to accommodate the increasing traffic. Whether looking for souvenirs and kitsch on Shinkyogoku Street, or scoping out the massive food court and restaurant floor at Takashimaya Department store, there's something for every wallet or purse, and a buyer for every item.
