Stayed two nights. Subway ride from Kyoto station, but located in central Kyoto. Room was fine, staff were great. I like leaving my room key at the desk when I go out because I never have to worry about losing my room key.
Everything about this hotel is in need of renovation. The decor is very dated, the bathroom was absolutely tiny, and the beds were uncomfortable, as were the pillows. We only booked this place because it was around the new year period, and possibly now understand...More
Rooms were average and I wasn't a fan of no safe or having to leave room key at reception, but the staff here are what made this hotel worthwhile to me. One day when we were out the housekeeping accidentally knocked over my luggage. When...More
We stopped by early to drop off our luggage before sightseeing and the staff were really helpful in sorting out our luggage (since we were in two rooms) and bringing them to the room while we were gone. They were really welcoming.

Hotel Gimmond is a little tired but makes up for it with very helpful staff, really convenient location. It is close to trains, walking distance from interesting places in Kyoto. I will definitely stay there next visit.

No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of
local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
