The hotel looks well, nice atmosphere, it is clean, the rooms are quite large for Japanese standards. The Japanese breakfast was amazing. It is served in the Japanese restaurant downstairs and I really recommend it instead of the 'European' breakfast which is not so nice and the decoration of the Japanese restaurant is really great (very zen!). The staff is...

We recently stayed at this hotel for 4 nights and it was the last of 10 hotels we visited through Japan over a period of about 7 weeks. Firstly let me tell you about the things we liked: The staff were ALL fantastic and could not have been nicer or more helpful. All we met spoke English. We arrived early,...

We stayed just over a week in this hotel. Very clean and comfortable. Quiet too. The staff were nice and we were very pleased with the location. Just a short walk to a subway station where we had breakfast before heading off to the many must see sites in kyoto. In the evening it was a nice stroll to the...

The biggest room we stayed in Japan - probably because the hotel is a lot older than the others we stayed in. Staff were lovely. Location was good, very close to subway station and just across from a convenience store.

Gimmond is an old fashioned hotel. The furniture in the room and bathroom looks very old and with a strange smell. However, it was clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. The location is really convenient, close by the metro station, Nishiki market and lots of small streets with local shops and restaurants.

Clean and friendly hotel in a convenient location. Easy access by subway from central city and handy to other food and sightseeing areas. Rooms and bathrooms are small but everything is there. Air conditioning wa a bit slow but we had a window so used that. The onsite Italian restaurant is not recommended but there are many places to eat...

I had been staying at hostels during my solo trip to Japan. I thought it would be nice to have my own space for a couple of days before I left so I booked this hotel. Booking basically two weeks before check in date I may not have gotten the best rate: $269.35 CAD for two weeknights. The front desk...

My only issue was bed quality. Very hard bed and not comfortable at all. Everything else was excellent. Considering how important good sleep is make sure you get a room with a better bed if possible. I have no complaints about this hotel except the bed.

My title alone should sway any visitor from staying here. The rooms had a lingering mold smell, sheets appeared old and worn, and the bathroom had cracks and mold in shower. I stayed for 2 nights and was relieved to check out. If you are just looking for a place to crash that resembles a motel 8 then this may...

I chose this hotel believing a central location was important to explore Kyoto. This hotel has a central location, no restaurant to speak of and clean if a little tired bathrooms. As such it was a good base - right at the intersection of the two main subway lines and in the middle of the city. Having been to Kyoto...

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
