Upon hearing the name greenpeace one imagines images of a clean safe environment. Discard those images now and disregard the deceptive images listed for this establishment. Allow me to paint you a more realistic picture. Upon arriving at the property we were greated not by the owner but by a note and a whiteboard. These crude "documents" revealed my name,...

We had to go out of this place ; my girlfriend has skin problems and the rooms were covered in dust, as well as the bed covers were not (or poorly) washed. I've been in many places around the world and i know that in some countries/cities, people just don't have money to hire people to perfectly clean the rooms,...

First of all: I can't understand the many negative reviews on this accommodation. This is a BUDGET guest house and NO 4-star hotel. This should be very clear to everybody, in consideration of the price. I stayed here for 3 nights in April 2016. Yes, the house is pretty old and rustic. Cleanliness could be a tick better (especially the...

My sister and I stay here every time we visit Kyoto. Chikako is amazingly friendly and hardworking- she keeps this busy guesthouse running so smoothly. Ideal location in northern Kyoto: supermarkets, Kamo River, malls, parks, pond all within a quick walk. The cleanliness of this place 100% depends on how inconsiderate the other guests are while you're staying there. (The...

quite a spacious room. it seemed clean but there were bugs, I got some bad bites here. the facilities are basic, doors a bit rickety, upstairs one very tight squat toilet, only one shower for a whole house - very damp and mouldy. everything in the two kitchens was covered in grease. however, I didn't go to Kyoto to admire...

Good position, 10 min by walk from Kitaoji (one of the main bus stations) and 3 mins from Matsugasaki subway station. The room was ok, big enough to fit 2 huge backpacks; tatamies, table and chairs. The owner ( an old japanese lady) is really nice and helpful. The only negative thing is about our last day... we left our...

But may be a place for you! It's basic, old but clean enough, it's comfortable Japanese sleeping style in a very quiet neighborhood, a fan, AC for an extra Y200/ day. And you have most of what you need, TV room, Wifi, washing machine, equiped kitchen, bicycle to use, bus and metro close by. But...Why not for us? The place...

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.

“Upstairs seemed quieter.”

“The place is easy to find almost at the end of the metro line, stop #2. It will cost you Y280 every time you have to go south via city center. One of the 5 city bus travelling between most of the sites cost Y220. At 10 minutes walk for food you have the Y100 economic store or the Coop Market if you want to cook for yourself.”
