The quality of a standard room for the price is appalling. After leaving the Hyatt Regency at Tokyo (the Hyatt was actually slightly cheaper) we arrived at the Nikko and were not only made to wait for our room after the appropriated check in time but also were disgusted by the room itself. Hotel looks as though it has not...

The hotel is located a few minutes walk from Shijo Karasuma station and easy to walk with luggage. The hotel is easy to find and although check in took a while we were in our room at 8am which was handy. The elevators were absolutely boiling so be prepared in summer, the room was comfortable although a little dated but...

We have just spent over a week at this hotel and this proved to be a very pleasurable experience. Our room was spacious and comfortable with a well designed bathroom. The staff were attnetive and very helpful and made us feel really welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast is good with a generous and sensibly priced Continental Breakfast...

The hotel is very nice and spacious. Beds are very comfortable. The staff is wonderful and accommodating. There is wifi in every room. Which is nice. Huge shower and bathroom. I do plan to stay here on my next visit to Kyoto.

This is our default hotel when visiting Kyoto. I have stayed here 3 times now, in 3 successive years. The hotel has spacious rooms, at a reasonable price. It is centrally located, and Kawaramachi is a 5-minute walk away. Location There's a Family Mart convenience store just around the corner, which comes in handy for drinks or late night snacks....

Very well located just two subway stops north of Kyoto central station and five minutes’ walk from the main Shijo-dori shopping area. It is no more than a minute or two at most from the nearest metro entry. The hotel is about top end 4* or lower 5* but has everything you could want. The rooms are a good size...

The Nikko Princess Hotel in Kyoto is located a short taxi ride ($6.50) from the main train station and is less than a ten minute walk to one of the largest shopping areas I have ever visited. The hotel is impressively maintained and was at a very reasonable rate. I would stay here again without any hesitation. The lobby staff...

I stayed Hotel Nikko Princess Kyoto for four nights in August 2016, while attending a conference in Kyoto. Overall I am happy with the hotel. It's not the cheapest, but offers a spacious room for a reasonable price I think. And the hotel is located in the center of Kyoto, and is convenient to go anywhere in kyoto. The staff...

Excellent hotel with extremely helpful staff. 5min walk to subway station and just two stops to Kyoto station. Only had breakfast in hotel but both western and Japanese options were top quality. Hotel is in a quieter part of town which was welcome after the crowds in the tourist areas.

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
