We stayed a few nights in this hotel. The hotel is OK and the staff is friendly. The reasons I cannot rate the hotel higher are: The appearance of lobby, corridors and rooms is old fashioned and without any chic. The rooms are minimal outfitted with dark and too simple furniture. Breakfast that is included, but very medium level. Bottom...

The room is clean and very small, but the size is typical and to be expected of Japanese hotels. Service is kind and friendly. But I would not stay here again because I am a light sleeper and the walls are paper thin. Every time someone walks down the hallway talking I can hear them. I am currently sitting in...

Super nice hotel, expected small rooms and beds after reading all the reviews of all Japanese hotels but this was pretty decent size. The bed was a little too firm for my liking but wouldn't put me off staying here or recommending it to anyone staying in kyoto. Very close to trains and bus stops outside the hotel, all the...

I stayed in this hotel with my family for one night. Its location is good. It's close to the main streets for which my family and I can go shopping and eat around at night after the sightseeing itinerary during daytime. The restaurants in the hotel are decent. The quality of food is quite high. I will recommend this hotel...

It was a delight to have visited and stayed at this Hotel. Apart from the usual things like Cleanliness, facilities etc, the best thing I found about the hotel was the Staff. I have never in my life seen such a polite staff which helped me out of the way when I asked them about few local things which my...

We spent a week at the Royal Hotel in the fall, and would gladly return the next time we are in Kyoto. The hotel is clean and comfortable, and the staff members are friendly, efficient, warm, and helpful. Our double-bed room was small, but well-appointed, with two comfortable chairs, a desk, a small fridge, and luggage space--no cupboards or dresser,...

Due to our stay commencing Christmas Day and although booking more than 9 months in advance vacancies in international hotels in our preferred location we're tight. Location is good although metro is a 7-10 min walk away but it isn't a problem as streets and footpaths are wide and flat. Rooms are of a good size and amenities, reception, housekeeping...

I really love the location as it is conveniently located in the shopping and food district of Kyoto and easily accessible from the train station and to other attractions via bus or train. Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
