This was our first trip to Japan. We chose this hotel based on location and quality. The property is located in a quiet part of Kyoto, in a residential quarter. The property is impeccably kept and our hotel room was very large and comfortable. Almost...More

Bad puns aside, this hotel is a great option in Kyoto. My rating reflects the value for the price. The rate was excellent. Our room had four beds and included either a Western buffet breakfast or an Eastern fixed breakfast. We opted for the Western...More
To begin with the hotel staff were extremely helpful. We had a number of issues (eg figuring out how to use the local coin laundry) and the staff were extremely helpful even though the questions were a bit trivial and unrelated to the hotel. They...More

A district with a long textile heritage, ancient Kyoto is still alive in the Nishijin District. Studded with its weaving factories, tea houses, and onsen, the neighborhood is charming and peaceful with a self-possessed air. Less traveled than other parts of the city, it is a district where you can take it at your own pace. Visitors can explore the many weaving and cloth houses, the free kimono shows, and the many
shops selling traditional clothing and goods. Showcasing architecture with sloping roofs and wooden reliefs dating to decades past, the streets in the Nishijin District transport you back in time, making them a joy to wander.

Yes, first hit the airport Tourist Information Center. They speak English there ... and can get you to the right train pretty quickly. Once at Kyoto station, I always just take a taxi to the hotel. It’s fast and not very expensive.
One tip: take along a printout of the hotel’s home page with their name and address in kanji. Or bookmark your Fodor’s with their page to (Fodor’s has the kanji for every destination they review!) Just show it to the taxi driver and you’ll be away in a flash.
