Okay, first the good points... thats easy its the staff, very well trained, polite and attentive. The location is okay, Kyoto attractions are all over the place, so wherever you are is going to mean a bit of travel some of the time. The City has excellent bus links, and for 500Yen from the front desk you can get a...

Stayed 4 nights at Tokyu Hotel in Kyoto. The hotel is okay. Rooms are not as nice as lobby area. The room we stayed in was in need of renovation (dark, worn and brown-colored), but was okay and clean. You have internet connection in your room, but it costs about 8 euros per 24 hours. Service everywhere in this hotel...

I'm a bit disappointed to see the number of people upset with the location of this hotel. A short bus ride or 5 minute, $6 taxi ride will get you to Kyoto station, Ponto-cho and to many other attractions in town. People forget that Kyoto is full of attractions and many of them won't be on brochures or in guides....

Very clean and modern hotel. Very central location if you want access to the train station as well as other parts of the city. However, the hotel is not immediately close to many of the tourist sites. We traveled outside of Kyoto several days during our stay here, so it was nice to be close to the train station. Buses...

This was a perfectly acceptable hotel in every way--except for its location, which was far from the tourist action, and far from restaurants and shops. In pursuit of inexpensive meals, we wound up having breakfast at the exact same place each day, and tried every yakitori joint in easy walking distance--kind of a drag. Staff was helpful and rooms nicely...

This was a really disappointing stay. The hotel is huge, the room Ok and staff good enough, however the location is terrible, on a busy main road a long way from the sites and above all there are absolutely no restaurants in the area. The choice we had in the evening after a hard day's sightseeing, was a fast food...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
