It was nice to stay in this place. I felt like I was back on time and living in a old japanese house. Clean and organised. Very good location. It was a little hard to find it, but someone helped us. Love it the living room.

The place rescues the traditional experience of Kyoto, the owners were very kind and supportive, they even show us the neighborhood. The place is not located in the center but it has access to different bus stations.

I stayed at this hostel because I was interested to live in a traditional Kyoto townhouse that hasn't changed much in centuries. And in that regards, this place certainly meets expectations. As soon as you turn down the alley where this guesthouse is located, you feel like you've stepped back in time, with narrow, crooked little houses and a very... More

We had a great time in Kyoto and stayed at this guest room for 5 nights. We really enjoyed it but it is obvious that it has some bad points which did not really bothered us but could potentially be a problem for others. To summarize : - If you plan to spend a lot of time in your room... More

Wow. A really think this should be in the top 10 Things To Do in Kyoto. It's like a time machine. We booked the family room and it's located in an old japanese house almost like it was some 100 year ago. With tatami, low table, futons, sliding doors, small garden (with your own cherry tree), toilet outside and all... More

Good in warmer months however having many outdoor passages between rooms makes it cold moving around in the winter. Rooms themselves are lovely however with a hot shower. The owner is lovely and is more than willing to help with anything. If you are exploring the city I highly recommend hiring a bike (which you can do from the guesthouse... More

This place is really good if you are looking for a not expensive place.Small and cozy traditional Japanese style, the guys in charge are nice but not really sociable, perfect to visit the north west side of Kyoto. They rent bikes for 500 yen all day until 1 a.m. (which is really cheap, in downtown is around 800 until 6... More

If you're looking for a japanese experience, this is the place. Perfectly located near buses and smalls streets, near shrines and lots of restaurants. The house is traditional, but it has all the facilities needed: air conditioner, good and hot shower, bicicles to rent and so on. Nice staff also, and english speaking.

This is a very traditional Japanese house, feel like full of history while staying at here. If you have a very short stays in Kyoto, this place will be not recommended, because all the tourist attractions are not in walking distance. However, if you have a long stay and would like to try a relaxing Japanese style local life, this... More

Staying in Northern Kyoto

Neighbourhood Profile
Northern Kyoto
Hot springs and historic temples characterize the leafy landscapes of Northern Kyoto. Acres of tranquil residential streets are interrupted by some of Kyoto's most gorgeous architectural gems, including the majestic Golden Pavilion of Kinkakuji, the serene artistry of the Ryoanji Temple rock gardens, and the bold red paint across the structures of Enryakuji Temple. Once a religious core of the city, the district now boasts some of its most remote and peaceful hot springs, as well as a few of its best family-run mom-and-pop restaurants. A blend of extremely local at its outskirts, and highly peopled at its tourist centers, Northern Kyoto nonetheless retains a halcyon air in harmony with nature.
