I have rated the hotel "very good" but that is because we upgraded our room to a junior suite. The location is really good - you can reach all the key sites by bus or subway from outside the hotel. Loads of good restaurants nearby. Staff are really helpful and very efficient. But the rooms are quite small. We asked...

Fantastic location and nice clean hotel with English speaking reception. Don't be fooled by plush common areas. Rooms are small, perfectly adequate but far from plush! Our view was a brick wall, the window sill was used for clothes as nowhere to put them. Did mention this to reception but told that Japanese travel light and don't really need wardrobe...

Our group stayed here for 4 nights and there were many things we loved: (1) location, easy access to the shopping arcades, pontocho, family mart for ATM/yen, lots of cabs around the corner (2) shower/bath, the best shower heads plus the deep tub was a bonus. Water pressure was awesome and nice and hot always. (3) service. Front desk had...

We stayed here in June 2014. There was subway outlet on the opposite side and a nice pizza resto closed to the hotel. You need to walk about 15 minutes from Sanjo station to reach the hotel. The hotel was modern, clean but its beds were ones of the smallest ones we ever stayed during in Japan.

We booked the Royal Park hotel as it was ideally situated in the centre of Kyoto. We wanted to visit the most popular areas and things to see and this hotels location was ideal. It's only a short stroll to Gion, and busses to everywhere run by or very nearby so there was no need to get our heads around...

Royal Park Hotel, The Kyoto is a delight. It's situated right in the heart of downtown Kyoto with great restaurants, shopping malls, Ponto Cho and the two main subway lines nearby. It's impeccably clean and extremely quiet. I didn't hear a peep from any other guest rooms. The lobby bar opens at 3pm and is a handy place to go...

Amazing location. Walkable to a number of areas and close to a few different metro lines. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and quiet. The only negative is the fact that the only two elevators were incredibly slow! The hotel was very busy when I stayed in April which probably contributed to the issue. That...

Good location, near by downtown and subway station. Very friendly and helpful staff with decent English proficiency, they try very hard to accommodate the guests. Front desk/reservation promptly replies every email regarding reservation and requests. Rooms are nice and clean with very good facilities. Nice bathroom. I didn't understand why many reviews says rooms are bad. The only downside is...

Our family stayed at the hotel for two nights in two connecting rooms that made our stay very comfortable. The location of the hotel is very central, near to shopping streets and very convenient to visit tourist spots. From out side the hotel looks small but the lobby/lounge areas are decently sized and so are the rooms. The bathroom was...

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
