This hotel is right in the heart of Kyoto on the edge of the Gion district which is great to go to bars and dinner in the evening. It is modern, rooms are clean, warm and comfortable and staff is helpful and friendly.

This location is amazing. Walking distance to everywhere downtown, the shopping areas, Gion and the Nishiki markets. The staff are helpful. The rooms are clean and maintained everyday by the housekeeping staff. We had an aircon system in our room 402, non-smoking room. I think they are now putting these in all rooms so we never had a problem with...

We had a wonderful time staying at this mid-range hotel. It was a great location near so many restaurants, shops and the market. It was a 10 minute walk to Sanjo station, which we used every day. Pontocho Alley and Gion are both within 10-15 minutes walking as well. Tucked down a side-street, it was also quiet for being so...

From check in to check out our stay was all we could have asked for. Our room was quiet, clean and comfortable and quite large based on our other rooms throughout Japan (Osaka and Tokyo). The location was excellent with plenty to do within walking distance. The staff couldn't do enough for you! They were on hand to answer any...

This place is almost in the market and really central to shopping, sites and great places to eat. Room was small but contained everything needed. Staff were friendly and helpful. I had an in room massage which was amazing. Great place to stay. Only downside was airconditioning centrally controlled and was on heating so room was too hot without windows....

I stayed with a friend for 4 nights in April for the cherry blossom season. The hotel is in a great location, it's 5 mins from the metro which was easy enough to navigate, and about 20min taxi from the main Kyoto train station. It's also in the heart of a shopping district with plenty of restaurants nearby without being...

This hotel is about a twenty minute drive from Kyoto station. It is off the main road and the last 100 metres or so needs to made on foot. The check in was very friendly, though they requested that the entire stay be payed for in advance. The rooms were slightly larger than a cubicle and after the expansiveness of...

It is ideally located near the markets, shops, and attractions. We were here at the height of cherry blossom and the stream and river next door is covered in blossom. The service is really good and breakfast is ok. Reviews complain about room size, maybe they have a single room our double room was large enough ( room 515) 516...

The hotel is in a great location in downtown Kyoto, in the Terramachi pedestrian area, with plenty of shops, restaurants, bars and cafes in easy walking distance. The nearest subway stop is just a few minutes away, Despite its central lication, its quiet (as its in pedestrian area). The rooms are comfortable and reasonable in size (for japanese standards) and...

Staying in Shinkyogoku Shopping District

Neighbourhood Profile
Shinkyogoku Shopping District
Those who delight in shopping and cuisine will find themselves at home in Shinkyogoku. Lauded and visited by locals for its Nishiki Market, where baskets of fragrant spices, dried fish, and just-fried foods are piled high along the snaking streets of its enclosed outdoor shopping spaces, Shinkyogoku is not only a hub for fresh fare, but also for fast fashion fixes. Trends-in-the-making can be spotted in the tall windows of several one-of-a-kind stores featuring local labels and modish boutiques. Arcades, outdoor concert spaces, mega department stores, and small, enchanting cafes have sprung up to accommodate the increasing traffic. Whether looking for souvenirs and kitsch on Shinkyogoku Street, or scoping out the massive food court and restaurant floor at Takashimaya Department store, there's something for every wallet or purse, and a buyer for every item.
