Stayed here for 3 nights during the recent gorgeous autumn season, a lovely time to see Kyoto. This hotel is located in 'central' Kyoto which is a section in the central northeast of the town just northwest of the famous Gion District and loaded with shopping and restaurants and bars near the Kawaramachi Sanyo bus stop, about 10-15 minute cab... Although this is a perfect hotel to explore Kyoto, you would be best advised to hire a guide for a day. This pays dividends. The hotel room was well appointed and the buffet breakfast was comprehensive. If travelling to Kyoto by train it is best to get a taxi from the station and the hotel is 50 yards from the... More

Really good location not far from the main parts of town. Good sized rooms and even though the area outside of the hotel can get very busy at night the rooms are quiet. Staff very helpful. However for a westerner the breakfast is very disappointing and would recommend that you visit some of the excellent places not far from the... More

Great location with plenty of shops and eatery nearby, room was a bit dated. One thing to nit pick is the AC in the room is either hot or cold, and you can NOT control this in the room itself, you must ask reception to switch to either hot or cold which is a little annoying as the side of... More

We stayed as a couple at this hotel recently and really enjoyed our stay. As we booked the room only a month before we stayed, there were only twin rooms available but I think we lucked out by having a twin room. We had room 501 on the fifth floor with two beds in a large room with an en-suite.... More

If we'd been able to eat the breakfast provided, I'd happily give this hotel five stars. It's in a fabulous location in the centre of town yet very quiet. The rooms are extremely comfortable and the staff speak great English and are very friendly and accommodating. I realise I'm travelling in another country and have to go with the flow,... More

Once you find this hotel (which my cab driver from the train station had difficulty doing) it is in a great location. It is a modern hotel. I was placed in a "corner" room, which was interesting because the hotel curves around (see picture). My room was quite large. The bed comfortable, and as was my experience everywhere, the pillow... We only stayed for one night during our stay in Japan but I can honestly say this hotel has everything you could want. It's location is fantastic it's very clean and the front desk staff are very polite and efficient. If we went back to Kyoto I would be more than happy to stay here again

This hotel is very well situated and is within easy walking distance of Gion, Nishiki Market and Central Kyoto. However if arriving at Kyoto Railway station with luggage it is probably necessary to take a taxi if you are not familiar with Kyoto We stayed in a Western style twin room with comfortable large single beds. The Wifi was very... More

This is a really nice new hotel in the center of everything! Serves a great buffet style breakfast with an excellent espresso machine! Close to subway and river. Coin operated laundry facility, which is always useful if traveling light.

Staying in Shinkyogoku Shopping District

Neighbourhood Profile
Shinkyogoku Shopping District
Those who delight in shopping and cuisine will find themselves at home in Shinkyogoku. Lauded and visited by locals for its Nishiki Market, where baskets of fragrant spices, dried fish, and just-fried foods are piled high along the snaking streets of its enclosed outdoor shopping spaces, Shinkyogoku is not only a hub for fresh fare, but also for fast fashion fixes. Trends-in-the-making can be spotted in the tall windows of several one-of-a-kind stores featuring local labels and modish boutiques. Arcades, outdoor concert spaces, mega department stores, and small, enchanting cafes have sprung up to accommodate the increasing traffic. Whether looking for souvenirs and kitsch on Shinkyogoku Street, or scoping out the massive food court and restaurant floor at Takashimaya Department store, there's something for every wallet or purse, and a buyer for every item.
