Stayed here for 2 nights. Staff were very nice. Great English and more than happy to help you out. Room was fine (simple tatami) with comfortable bedding. Free wifi was a good bonus. However, the house doesn't receive much light so it can be a bit dark. If you're over 6ft you WILL bang your head several times as doorways...

We stayed here for one night. The building is very lovely traditional Japanese style. Staffs are helpful. Shower room and restroom is ok. But hostel's location is pretty far from Kyoto Station and not suite for large luggage.

If I went back to Kyoto, I would stay here again. It had an at-home in Japan feeling. Yes it was small, but it's a remodeled traditional house. The staff is very friendly and very, very helpful. We stayed in a 3 person room in the summer there was an air conditioner for us to keep cool at night. The...

My son (13) & I stayed at Hostel Mundo in 2010. The owner was so friendly and helpful - a fabulous person. His dog was also friendly. My son really enjoyed staying somewhere with a dog. We hired bikes and rode to attractions from here. The kitchen was fabulous. The bedroom with tatami mats and doonas was really comfortable. It...

If you're ever lost like how we were on the first day, ask which hostel has a dog and the directions should send you to Hostel Mundo. My friends and I really enjoyed staying in Hostel Mundo. It's close to bus stops that took us around Kyoto like Ginkakuji, Gion, and Heian Jinja. If you have any questions, feel free...

Staying in Nishijin District

Neighbourhood Profile
Nishijin District
A district with a long textile heritage, ancient Kyoto is still alive in the Nishijin District. Studded with its weaving factories, tea houses, and onsen, the neighborhood is charming and peaceful with a self-possessed air. Less traveled than other parts of the city, it is a district where you can take it at your own pace. Visitors can explore the many weaving and cloth houses, the free kimono shows, and the many shops selling traditional clothing and goods. Showcasing architecture with sloping roofs and wooden reliefs dating to decades past, the streets in the Nishijin District transport you back in time, making them a joy to wander.

“There is only a few rooms: 5 privates on the 2nd floor and a female dorm on the 1st. If you are both sexes travelling, or all male, you will need a private room, and that can accommodate 2 to 4 people. There is no other options but to email them directly and enquire, the owners speak good English and will be able to inform best on availability and options.”
