The rooms were a good size and the beds were very comfortable! The rooms were modern and had good facilities, and gave the option of home cooking too. The lobby was lovely and the staff were helpful. My only downside was the breakfast. It was a small buffet and didn't have much choice. I recommend going out as there are... More

I chose this hotel for a few different reasons. 1) I loved the Citadine Apartments in Shinjuku Tokyo and assumed Kyoto would be similar. 2) Great recommendations from Trip Advisor. 3) Got an excellent price on their website for being a member. I stayed here recently as a solo traveller and was pleased with the hotel. I stayed in a... More

I stayed in many Japanese hotels before, but this one by far exceeded my expectations. Beautiful lobby, friendly and knowledgeble staff, spacious and clean room. The room was very bright with nice big windows, a kitchenette with all appliances and utensils, flat screen TV, wifi, etc. They also gave me 40 percent off my next stay in any of their... More

15-20 minute walk from station. Stylish lobby. Friendly welcome from staff. Room is clean and comfortable. Balcony is a bonus. Kitchenette reasonably well equipped. overall the apartment is a hotel room rather than an apartment

The staff is very helpful and knows a lot more English than at the other hotels we've been to. Comfortable rooms with good beds. Couch is not to great though. Breakfast was good but a bit small. Location is wonderful, one stop from Kyoto and Shijo stations (the city center) and walking distance from a lot of nice activities.

If you are not willing to splurge on accommodation yet want relatively good hotel, this is definitely a great choice. I manage to get a good rate through their website (tips: do visit their website every now and then as sometimes they offer really competitive rate). Location is great with just a few steps to Gojo station (one stop away... More

I have to say this is the best hotel experience I had in Japan with Citadines. We had a double room, apartment style. The room was so spacious compared to the other hotels we stayed in - it is more expensive than the other ones I have to say, but I'll definitely choose Citadines again next time over other hotels!... I stayed here for one night in Kyoto. The room was large for Japanese standards, and the wi-fi was excellent. I did find the bed quite firm, however this is quite typical in Japan I believe. The room had a great view onto the street, however you can't see Kyoto tower because of the tall buildings. The location was great.... More

Central location, good sized rooms by Japanese standards, a working kitchenette with all necessary utensils, free internet, friendly staff - all at a reasonable price. Perfect place to explore Kyoto from and even have a go at cooking a perfect wagyu steak!

Very reasonably priced efficiency apartment in Kyoto. We had a kitchen, living room and bed. It was nice to have the space to stretch out a bit. Don't be deterred by the dark entry way or lobby; the rooms are quite nice. The breakfast is cheap at $5-6 but not good at all. The eggs were rubbery, no fruit options,... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
