I have stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. The room is spacious and comfortable if compare to other hotels in Japan. The room is well equipped with good facilities. Subway (Gojo station exit 14) and bus stop are close to hotel make it convenience for travelling. There are convenience stores and restaurant around hotel and atmosphere is very peaceful...

Great restaurants just next door and only a short walk or cycle up to the Gion area of Kyoto Right next to a subway but it was such...

A little far away from the buzy part of the Kyoto, but hotel was well rated and facilities were highly rated. Paid about AUD $175 per night via Agoda which was of middle price range. Very quiet hotel. Staff were good.

An apartment style hotel with suite like rooms. Great as an alternative to business hotels. Stayed 3 nights here to see the Autumn colours. Far too short a time, but we saw some beautiful gardens. The hotel is close to the station, a short subway ride or Y1,100 by taxi. Not in a great area, have to walk some way...

This hotel is an excellent choice if you have stayed in other ryokans and already had authentic Japanese experiences elsewhere. It is good value and provide everything you need for a comfortable hotel stay. We were very impressed with the concierge services, after asking them to book a visit to Kokedera temple by post as required by the temple. They...

Two of us stayed five nights at the Citadines in late November. The hotel is conveniently located next to a metro stop and the room is fairly spacious and well laid out versus other Japanese hotels. However, the cons unfortunately dramatically outweigh the benefits of staying at this property. The bed had the hardest, most uncomfortable mattress of any hotel...

Pros: The room was very large and clean. The flattering photos on Tripadvisor and the hotel website are accurate. We had a kitchenette, sofa, and balcony. The bed was a king size. There is a laundry room in the basement (and we used it one night). Everyone I encountered in the lobby spoke English capably. The hotel is centrally located....

Stayed 5 nights here, overall good stay -- comfortable bed, sizable room (by Japan standards), decent clean bathroom, there's a convenience store right across the road and a few restaurants along the same street. For the price paid, this is a good base to travel around Kyoto from -- whilst Gojo subway station is just a few minutes walk away,...

Despite arriving there in the middle of the night we were welcomed friendly and with a quick check-in. Rooms are Japanese style (i.e. small), but spotless clean and you will find everything you need incl. a small terrace to the street. The hotel takes benefit of his excellent location (2 minutes to underground, 1 station to Kyoto station) and its...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
