We were only here one night, but the twin ryokan room had everything we needed and then some! The shower and washroom amenities were the most impressive, the room was clean, comfortable and cosy. It was also easy to walk to Kyoto Station from the hotel, although the public bus was also an option.

I stayed in Capsule Ryokan for 6 days, it's a very tidy, clean and cozy place. The staffs can speak English well, they are really helpful and friendly. I think this is the best hostel I've stayed so far :).

This capsule is very nice and clean, would definitely recommend this to everyone. The staff were also really great. They also have nice little tip sheets and maps that tells you how to get around to all the main attractions and some good cheap eats around the capsule. We stayed here for 2 nights and found that it was good... More

Location was a stone's throw within Kyoto Station, within 1min there's a bus stop(which is the prime choice for transportation in Kyoto city limits), it is excellent as a base to travel within Kyoto or outside of it. Price was very reasonable - the price for a private room (for two) was the price of a private room elsewhere. Staff... More

The hotel is perfect for travellers as the train station is within a 10-min walk. There are many places around open at night so that you can eat or buy groceries. The staff is polite and nice, they speak English. They do their best to accomodate you: everything is at your disposal (umbrella, hair dryer, hanger, kettle, fridge, washing machine,... More

Very professional and helpful staff, rooms are clean and as pictured online, but I would get out your tape measure and realize how small the ensuite rooms are before booking. I was glad that we changed to only a one-night stay, I felt very claustrophobic. But it was an interesting and memorable experience for one night. Husband loved the shower.... More

Going to Japan and wanting to try a capsule is no easy if you travel as a couple. This option is as close as you can get without sleeping in separate capsules. A very tiny room, but space to store your luggage (under your bed). A private bathroom and shower cabin was a must for us. The laundry and coffee... More

Great location just a few minutes’ walk from JR Rail Station and Bus stops. We stayed in the Japanese Style Double Room, good-size, with A/C, TV, Wi-Fi and lots of storage. Clean and quiet, staff are very friendly and helpful and allowed us to check in and use the room quite early. Close to shops and restaurants.

One must try ryokan when visiting Japan however it is rather very expensive. Capsule Ryokan allow the budget traveller to experience sleeping on tatami at a reasonable cost. The location is convenient (close to Kyoto station and bus stops with buses to tourist attractions) and there's lots of nice restaurants around the hotel. This is definitely worth considering when visiting... More

Kyoto has so much to see and is a great home base for day trips in the region, so we stayed 5 nights. Private room for two was cozy and clean and came equipped with AC and an excellent shower with three different settings including rainfall and jets. Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
