Short walk from a couple of metro stations, so don't let that stop you from booking. We reserved a family room which had two twins next to each other for a queen/king size bed, plus a bunk bed the kids loved (we have a 15yo girl and a 12yo boy). The bunk beds and ladder are secured really well, so the kid on the top bunk could move freely without disturbing the bottom bunk (or us). The beds and bunk are in the same room however, so it's very cozy and can make sleep difficult if there are snorers present. Washer/dryer combo in the washroom and it dried decently (larger loads, or heavier material like fleece came out very very slightly damp - could still wear it and it would dry quickly on your body) - felt like a full cycle took something like 6 hours (not exaggerating!). But it was good. We brought a couple packets of powder detergent with us, but the hotel sells it to you as well. Room included a sitting area that was great to share all of our nightly konbini purchases (think ice cream in a tube, late night ramen, etc). Kitchenette included a mini fridge and a separate mini freezer, electric stovetop, and electric hot water appliance. Lots of nice neighborhood restaurants within a block of the hotel. We ate at Go-En around the corner, and it was great for a family vibe and delicious shahu shabu (note: cash only at this restaurant). Front desk staff very helpful - many spoke fluent English, and they were able to secure taxis for us a couple of times via an app, that arrived within 5 minutes at the entrance.

Not too close to the station (10-15 mins walk) but it’s quiet neighborhood surrounded by drug stores and fast food nearby which is convenient for kids, but also nice restaurants around which is nice for couples. Can walk to Nishiki market and nearby shopping district. Washers in the room!! Just bring dryer sheets and maybe buy fabric softener to help clothes smell amazing. Washer and dryer in 1 machine so you don’t have to move the clothes. Just start it before you leave to tour around, then come back to clean, dry clothes! We had the connecting family rooms with 2 bunk beds and a queen bed or 2 double beds in each room with kitchen and kettle and it was all very convenient and roomy. We brought our own instant coffee, sugar. We also tried UberEats to this location and they delivered right to the lobby. Very convenient to bus stop too. Great place to stay.

Excellent location and connectivity. Lots of dining options as well as supermarket closeby, and a convenience store practically next door. The Karasuma line can also be used to directly reach Nara.

We stayed here as a family of five (ages 5, 2 and 0). There were drawing tools, coloring books, stamps, wooden toys, etc., which could be brought into the room, and it was a refreshing experience for the children who usually only watch TV in their rooms. In addition, it was very helpful that juice was prepared in paper cartons so that we could bring drinks into the room.
It was also nice that we could grind our own coffee. However, my partner said that it would have been better if there were more types of beans. Also, the free drink time for alcohol was short, so it was unfortunate that we couldn't use it during meal times. Therefore, I gave it a rating of -1 star.

We stayed at the Mimaru as a family of 4. Staff were accommodating and spoke English well. The apartment was spacious with two single beds pushed together to make one bed and bunk beds for the kids. The best part was that there was a washing machine and dryer and detergent in the apartment which was greatly appreciated. There is coffee available and costs 50 yen if you bring a mug from your room or 100 yen if you use a disposable cup. Amenities were provided including toothbrush toothpaste slippers and robes.
The location was a bit further away from the main area than I expected but still within a 15 to 20 minute walk. However there is a subway about a 5 minute walk. Just a note that rooms did not get cleaned except for trash being removed from the room.
Overall a pleasant stay but on my next visit to Kyoto I will choose a more centrally located hotel.

*Room size was spacious, especially when compared to others in Kyoto
*Fairly new hotel so things were in good condition
*Hotel staff were quite helpful/professional and they also spoke English which we appreciated (after 7 AM)
*Kitchen was well-stocked and extra kitchen appliances were available (like a toaster oven for free)

*TV was located in the kitchen/dining area in terrible location (plus glued down so you could not turn it to view from the bed)

When you try to check in ahead of the friend who made the Reservation, the room you were supposed to be making the Reservation in was not being reserved? That was the situation. Apartment style room was a great change from a hotel - felt more relaxed as could spread out more and actually had a shared table where we could eat / sit together.
Best feature was the washer / Dryer in the room - we would definitely recommend for families. There is more space and amenities than your usual hotel and bonus is everyone is in the same space for up to a family of four - not needing connecting rooms for a very reasonable price.
