I loved this place -- I wish we had stayed here longer. The room we stayed in was Japanese-style with futons on the floor, and it was very large. There are shared toilets, sinks, and showers downstairs. We didn't have any problems with noise (actually I don't think we even saw any other guests while we were there). The owner...

Booked this ryokan at the recommendation of a friend and it didn't disappoint. Lovely & charming, the owner, who lives onsite as well, is very helpful and gave us directions and tips to get everywhere. Our rooms were clean, and very well kept and we got to use free traditional bathrobes. Our futons were comfortable & while I was originally...

I spent only one night here and found it to be a super-central and charming guesthouse. If it wasn’t for how loud the noise travels I sure would have liked to stay longer. The place it’s very easy to find and it’s just a 10 minutes walk from the station. I arrived before my room was ready so I left...

I stayed two nights at Guest Inn Chita. Firstly the guesthouse itself: clean, comfortable, cozy, and in a good location. What made my stay here exceptional was Kahori, who was approachable, friendly, and helpful. I had developed a large and painful infected cyst on the back of my neck - not an ideal situation when travelling in a foreign country,...

I have nothing bad to say about this place. We came as a group of 6 and we booked separate rooms (because it said so on the booking website) but the owner gave us a very large room for our group to stay together. Very nice. The shower rooms are available in private bathrooms and Japanese communal bathtub. The location...

The authentic Japanese style room was fantastic! Slept great. Really nice hostess who speaks English very well!! It turned out that the inn is actual her own house and she treated us with great hospitality. The location is also perfect, about 6 minute walk from the train station. They also keep your luggage free of charge before and after check-out....

We stayed at Guest Inn Chita during our honeymoon visiting Japan. Having only stayed in hotels for the last decade or so of holidaying I was a little apprehensive about our stay here but it was excellent. The futon beds were comfy and the room was more spacious than I expected. The room felt nice and cool as well. The...

It is a sweet guest house with traditional rooms. The shower and toilets are shared, but also a nice small kitchen with tea and coffee available in every hour. The family that runs the place was very friendly. I was happy about the price and the Japanese style room.

Chita Guest Inn is an excellent traditional accomodation 5/10 min far from Kyoto Station (Shinkansen, JR, Kyoto Bus terminal). Toilets and showers at ground floor (no ensuite rooms) are very clean. Kettle, tea, coffee, fridge, hairdryer, towels, full kitchen are available in the common room. Futons are very comfortable and clean. Yukata are at your disposal to wear after the...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
