The resort is about 10 minutes away from the station, but a free shuttle will pick you up when you get off the train and whisk you away to the resort. All rooms are Japanese-style (tatami and futons) and you will be expected to wear yukata. Dinner is served in the room as is traditional, and we enjoyed a delicious...

It took us about an hours train ride and short walk to find this little gem but it was worth it. It was clean, the staff was friendly, spoke little English. The Onsen was clean. Outdoor and indoor were the perfect temperature. Not too hot but definitely hot and relaxing. This was a perfect break from traveling and walking. It's...

I arrived at the hot spring going to walk from Kurama station for about 10 minutes. The view is so beautiful but a little expensive. I needed 1000 yen to enter an outdoor hotspring bath. I paid 400 yen for rental of a bath towel. I could spend relax time:)

I was so impressed with the Onsen that I went back in our last visit to Kyoto. The outdoor Onsen was fantastic when I went the first time three years ago in autumn. This time we went in mid September and kyoto was still very hot 32 degrees Celsius. The Onsen was also quite crowded so it wasn't as nice...

After a few days of cities, walking, humidity high levels, traffickump, noise... Kurama Ryokan Onsen was a delicious stop to realize the japanese way of life, hosting and personality. Peace and silence were for 24 hours, living together with amazing thermal baths (onsen) Highly recommended !!!

This "resort" is about a 30 minute train ride from Kyoto, up in the mountains north of the city. It is easy to navigate the trip since Kurama is the last stop. A shuttle bus meets the train and drives you up the hill to the resort. Once there, you have two choices: an indoor or an outdoor bath. I...

As much about the trip up and down as about the Onsen though that was great. We did just the outside pool experience (cheaper) - separate male/female pools, quiet in a gorgeous setting. We took the bus up and the train down which is a great way of doing it because the train leaves 1.1k away and the walk down...

This is worth a visit if you like Japanese onsen. If you do visit, please follow the rules and etiquette of a thorough cleaning of your body before you soak in the onsen. The onsen bath is NOT for cleaning your body but relaxing and its health benefits. It is also communal and natural meaning there is no filter or...

First of all, this was my first onsen experience so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I loved it! Get the subway/train to Kurama - it's very scenic and even nicer when the Sakura is blossoming on the trees! Hop on the free shuttle. Pay the nice man 1000 yen (£6ish) and go get naked with your...

A great Onsen. Peaceful & quiet place. Traditional Japanese bedrooms. A great hike up to the Kurama Temple & afters Onsen will be t best way to cure the tired legs. It's an outdoor & indoor Onsen. For cyclist , a great climb up to the place from Kyoto, using the small roads vs highways. Worth the visit .

“We took a standard room and was very pleased to have view on the parking. I say "pleased" because there are 3 beautiful Japanese marple-tree in the parking and as it was autumn they were simply beautiful. Nice view to take a break in the morning in the room before enjoying the outside public bath.”
