We were greeted by a well English speaking reception staff member. He had spent time in Australia and was easily understandable. Our Japanese is very basic at present. The rooms were tidy, neat, all needs addressed. Bit expensive for 2 nights however we closeness to the Nijo Palace was great. There were a number of eateries close by and we...

We booked the Japanese room on the 10th floor for space as we have two kids. It was great, the room very spacious and good to have doors between rooms. You have a fridge, table for eating and a decent TV. The bathroom was ok, pretty basic but similar to what you'd get in a Japanese bath house. Overall it...

We only stayed here because we didn't find any other room in Kyoto (silver week - almost no Hotel rooms left) First of all the location is ok-ish. It's close to Nijo castle and a subway line, but far from the lively city center which is usually not what we book. The room was quite expensive due to aforementioned holiday...

We arrived this hotel on our honeymoon. The price was very expensive vs other hotels we have visited in Japan. Furthermore the room was VERY small with bad smell, the shower was very outdated and the walls weren't clean. The most problematic issue was the wi-fi that sporadically made it to our upper 9th floor. The water flow wasn't consistent...

Firstly, I would like to say the staff here are great. Good English. Very responsive and go out of their way to help. (Like all Japenese) The hotel is in a good location. Close to the Castle. (10min Walk at the end of the street) 2 km from Nishiki Market and all the shopping you desire. It's a good base...

Good traditional yet modern hotel located in a big and quiet street. It is easily accessible from kyoto station, 3 stations away from it. You can visit the Nijo castle and kyoto imperial palace which are located not far from there. By bus you can easily access to the main attraction and walk to the Gion neighborhood. We were 5...

Typical Japanese business hotel style accommodation (ie small). Very very much in need of a renovation but you get what you pay for in life and the price is reasonable in an otherwise expensive city. Lack of proper wifi signal is annoying.

Room size was a little small as compared to the other hotels I've been to Japan but that wasn't much of a problem. Despite having asked for a non-smoking room, I was greeted with a strong stench cigarette ash right at the entrance. Weirdly enough the smell went away as I walked into the room. The toilet is pretty much...

The basic requirements for me when I searched an accommodation in Kyoto is cheap (who wanna stay in hotel in Kyoto when there're so many things to see?), with my own bathroom and toilet, acceptably clean (at least from the photos) & convenience location (as the transportation fee in Japan was pretty high compared to Hong Kong). I think Chatelet...

The 5 of us stayed in a japanese style room in the Chatelet Inn for 1 night. We chose it as we were going to be around the area for 1 day and visiting the palace from there is pretty convenient. Had not much of an expectation as the price was incredibly cheap. BUT wow what a nice little inn....

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
