We enjoyed our two nights stay here sleeping on traditional tatami beddings. The room we book for family of 3 was just nice with a good view of the garden. The room and furniture was a bit dated, the room was generally very clean. Would suggest they add an English news channel on the TV to cater to International travellers....

Extremely over priced for what you get. The equivalent of a 4/5 * hotel which it is not. We'd thought we'd splash out on a nice ryokan experience at the beginning of our holiday. This isn't a true ryokan (we experienced many of these in the rest of the holiday). It's a hotel with a hot bath. On the good...

This is not a true ryokan. Located North west of Tokyo. First and only metro station is quite far. The lobby gives a good 1st impression with its garden, but that's about it. The whole hotel is in dire need of an update. The public hot bath in the basement is not very inviting. The hotel wifi does not work...

As I have tattoos, I chose a ryokan to stay in based off the grounds and the meals as opposed to the onsen. The photos of the garden at Ryokan Nenrinbo looked gorgeous and I was looking forward to walking around in it. Unfortunately, the garden was closed for maintenance. Without the garden and onsen, the only places on the...

The room is clean but probably has seen better days. The bathroom has been recently renovated and very modern and clean. The temperature control in the room was difficult and the air conditioner made a constant buzz throughout the night. Meals were delightful, both dinner and breakfast, and servers were attentive throughout. The safe was not working and locked when...

Excellent service by the owner himself. Good onsen bath and magnificent food. I really enjoyed the service. The room perfect, wonderful tatami floor and a small bathtub on the terrace. Pickup-service from the metro station very convenient.

A group of us stayed here for the second time in 2 years and had the same remarkable experience. This Ryokan is tucked away in a quiet residential area in the mountains so it's super peaceful. The staff here is very friendly/helpful and the food is on point. My favorite feature is the beautiful garden that you can view while...

Gems in the Kyoto town, even located far from station but it's worth for stay and relax here. Shower and take a bath in very good view in their Onsen. Then, Get Dinner set in hotel is recommend, Good quality Kaisegi (Japanese luxury food) dinner served to you.

Staying in Northern Kyoto

Neighbourhood Profile
Northern Kyoto
Hot springs and historic temples characterize the leafy landscapes of Northern Kyoto. Acres of tranquil residential streets are interrupted by some of Kyoto's most gorgeous architectural gems, including the majestic Golden Pavilion of Kinkakuji, the serene artistry of the Ryoanji Temple rock gardens, and the bold red paint across the structures of Enryakuji Temple. Once a religious core of the city, the district now boasts some of its most remote and peaceful hot springs, as well as a few of its best family-run mom-and-pop restaurants. A blend of extremely local at its outskirts, and highly peopled at its tourist centers, Northern Kyoto nonetheless retains a halcyon air in harmony with nature.
