This hotel has lovely staff who are helpful and it was the first 'public bath' I tried in Japan. The rooms are clean and the bed was really comfortable. There are nearby eateries, one in particular did great sushi and gyoza. I also tried the Dojo Ninja experience which is a 5 minute walk away and a really interesting experience. They also provide a service that you can have your bags sent to the next hotel for relatively cheaply which I found really helpful as it meant avoiding dragging cases on and off trains. The only negative was the the breakfast buffet food was cold.

We had a wonderful stay here. Stayed for 4 nights. Such lovely staff, so friendly and welcoming with beautiful smiles every day. Gorgeous spacious lobby area. Our room was immaculately clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. Very good location with lots of interesting shops, cafes, bars and the all important 7-11 nearby. I even liked the buckwheat pillow, a new experience for me! But there was also a regular pillow too. Pyjamas provided
Lots of selection at the breakfast buffet, we enjoyed trying the Japanese selections. We loved this hotel

We ‘ve stayed 3 nights at Mitsui Garden Kyoto Shijo and it was a great experience. The bed and pillow were so comfy. I usually have bad neck pain but my neck pain goes away during my stay at the hotel. Can someone let me know what brand is the pillow they used here? It feel like they have beads inside. I forgot to take a picture of it before I left. 🥺 The hotel is only couple minutes walk to subway, convenient stores and restaurant. Staff is very friendly and very supportive.

The check in system is awful! Whoever designed and built it did not think about foreigners using it. It is one of the worst interfaces I have ever been forced to use. After 3 attempts I gave up and checked in at the front desk. This is my second time to stay here.

Everything else was fine. But I'm not sure I want to stay here next time I come to Kyoto if I have to deal with this check in system again...

I am writing this harsh review in the hope that the hotel will fix its system.

On our last trip to Tokyo, we stayed with Mitsui garden for 8nights and it was awesome! This time, they made us feel at home once again. If ever you need a good hotel, this is the one. A little small but compact. They provide you with all the amenities that you need. So there is no need to worry! A few of the reception does speak english and they were very helpful to us during our trip.

There is a family mart right beside the hotel. It is very convenient. Bus stop right outside the hotel too. Pls check with the reception where does it lead to. Because we never took the bus there before. But we did take bus no 50 which is down a few blocks as you turn out to your right side from the hotel's entrance. This bus is very convenient to go around town and to the Kyoto station.

Kyoto is a must for mochi. Do try this! We ate many along our encounter. Visit the nishiki market for lots of food varities.. infact the whole kyoto is all about food, culture and shopping! We love this place so much. Unfortunately we did not manage to catch a real geisha at gion.

For moving around , either you use the icoca (prepaid card) or the visitor's day pass at 1200 yen per day. We got the 2 days pass at 2000yen.

Add info about hotel:
1. There's a public onsen pool.
2. Coin laundry
3. You can also purchase your travelling day pass at the lobby. Check out for the machine.

Thank you for staying at Mitsui Garden Hotel Kyoto Shijo. We are pleased to hear that you have been satisfied with our services. Our hotel has many types of rooms from a compact room to a more spacious room. All the rooms are provided with a refrigerator, an electric kettle, a flat screen TV, air conditioning, an air purifier, a standard set of amenities and a bottle of mineral water. We hope our guests make a reservation according to their needs and preference. On the ground floor, we have 3 coin operated washing machines, the garden view public bath and massage chairs. We hope all the facilities provide our guests a comfortable time. Fortunately we are located in central Kyoto. It is easy for our guests to go to famous places by bus or on foot. It takes about 15 minutes to go to the Nishiki Market on foot. For the Kinkakuji Temple by bus it takes about 30 minutes. For the Kiyomizudera Temple it also takes about 30 minutes. At the reception, you can purchase the One Day Bus Pass and One Day Bus and Underground Pass from the vending machine. If you are looking for the 2 Day Tourist Pass, you can purchase it from the Shijo metro station. Utilizing these passes give our guests many advantages to sightseeing in Kyoto. We have prepared maps with tips of where to go in Kyoto. As you mentioned, it is important to travel for food in Kyoto as there are many different options for food. The variety is endless. We hope you have had a pleasure of experiencing a new taste. If you have questions about sightseeing, please come to the reception as it is open 24 hours a day. We are always glad to help our guests and continue creating the environment where you would feel warmly welcomed. Thank you for taking your time to leave a comment. We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future. Front Office Manager

Surprisingly nice room for the price in Kyoto (multiple people could occupy the room at once! shocking!). Good location near to shijo subway stop and 10 minutes walk to the Nishiki Food Market, but not much in the immediate vicinity. Nice public bath on the first floor, but breakfasts could be better.

I expected the Mittsui Garden to be a 3 star hotel and so was absolutely delighted with all the amenities. First of all, the lobby was elegant and beautifully clean. The staff upon arrival were great and efficient and oh so friendly! I was simply delighted with the room -- although an ordinary size, it had a bidet, hairdryer, bath and shower, large bottles of shampoo, conditioner, facial cleanser and body soap, minifridge, kettle and green tea with cups -- supplied every day, kimonos (fresh every day) for use in the public bath and slippers, tv, table and 2 chairs.

There is a restaurant and a coffee shop, although I didn't try them because we met friends elswhere every day. The public bath in the hotel is truly wonderful -- you must try it!

The staff is very friendly and always smiling. There is a staff person day and evening stationed in the lobby to give information or advice. get you a cab, etc. Our first night we decided to go for a walk to acquaint ourselves with the area and we were called to the desk and given an umbrella in case it rained! This is just one example of the excellent service in this hotel.

I absolutely would not stay anywhere else if I return to Kyoto!

Stay at the Mitsui Garden Hotel -- you won't regret it! I wish I could go back!

Stayed for 2 nights. Overall pleasant stay with great hospitality.

Pro:
-Great location, Public bus station, Sub-way within 5 mins walk.
-Main Shijo / shopping area within 10 mins
-Clean, tidy room, comfy bed with good quality toilet amenities.
-Public bath at ground floor until 1am. You can experience traditional Japanese culture without going out.
-a Family mart is located next to the hotel lobby, so that you could grab quick bite in the morning or supper.
-cheap food and a super market (Fresco) nearby. You won't be bored at mid-night

Cons
-Room are small compares to other Mitsui hotels in Kyoto
-Public bath area is not clean , tidy enough maybe its busy even in the mid-night.

This hotel checks all the boxes. Quiet, comfortable, clean, and in a good location. Everything a traveller could possibly need is provided, and if not, the helpful hotel staff with do their best to see to it that you are taken care of. They cater to the non-Japanese speaking tourist, which is especially nice to have in Japan, with such things as an English language booklet explaining the hotel's services and facilities, and clear signage everywhere. The location was another plus. You can reach this hotel from Kyoto Station by taking Bus #50 for 230 yen and get off at Shijo Nishinotoin, which will practically drop you at the front door! Additionally, the hotel is near the Hankyu subway line and many busstops to take you to various places around Kyoto. One last thing I would like to add is a story which typifies the lengths to which Japanese service will go. One evening I did a small amount of laundry in their coin operated laundry machines. Wouldn't you know it, but the next day I discovered I was missing one black sock. I asked the young man at the front desk if anyone had turned it in, and not only did they have it, but had catalogued it, placed it in a small plastic bag dated and labelled!! I was pleased to have the sock returned and blown away at this efficiency. Yes, I would definitely suggest staying here.
