We chose this place because it's a very short walk to Kyoto Station and features Japanese-style rooms. Located in the busiest part of town, our room was nevertheless very quiet and spacious. Service was excellent. We didn't eat here, so can't comment on the meals. The veranda furnishings were a bit sparse, but everything else was fine. Note: Japanese-style rooms,...

I visited Kyoto with my family, and I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. The room was quite spacious and clean, and had a traditional Japanese feel to it (genkan, tatami, low table, ofuro). The face/hand washing area was also huge, with separate doors to the bathing area and the toilet. I tried the public bath, but it was disappointing...

A ryokan-style hotel with modern facilities. The room was quite spacious and comfortable, with a private bathroom and a reasonably sized fridge. Love the ambience of a japanese-style room. Also offers public bath facilities. Location is in close proximity to Kyoto Station and Kyoto Tower (3-5 minutes walking distance). There is an staircase entrance to Kyoto Station's underground shopping mall...

Nice ryokan style hotel with private bathroom. Our room is roomy with 3 separate sections. We had dinner (kaiseiki and shabu shabu) and breakfast. We love grilled fish served during breakfast very much. If you traveling with kids please choose shabu or sukiyaki for dinner. This hotel is located about 2 mins walk from the central exit of kyoto station....

We booked in November and had difficulty finding anything luxurious. However, we know that even a 3* Pension in Japan offers acceptable service. So we took this hotel for our first two nights. It is within 10 minutes walk from the Kyoto JR station. The breakfast was OK. We had our meals at recommended restaurants and did the tours.

Thank you very much for staying overnight. And I received a good word. Customer individuals have have time even a little comfortably, and I always make an effort and go in order to eat a good dish, so if there is a case that I can come to Kyoto again, please come near. I'm waiting.

This hotel/ryokan is a good find. Nice atmosphere. Staff speaks very limited english, but with a little bit of effort we can understand each other. Location is very close to Kyoto Station, but there is no elevator access to the station from the closest entry. So be prepared to heavy lifting your luggage at least twice when check in and...

If you are looking for a good price Ryokan close to the central train JR Kyoto station, this is your choice. Rooms are big and clean. Very well prepare with all amenities you may need (included your Kymonos!). Service is good and attentive. The common baths are OK. You have a big lobby with good resting-waiting areas. Room was ryokan-style, but overall the hotel had a modern feeling to it. Spacious room. Very convenient location a few minutes walk from Kyoto station. The public bath was clean and well-maintained. We were disappointed because our reservation included breakfast, but the breakfast area was closed due to maintenance.

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
