MUST DO! If you want to try the Ryokan experience this is the best place in Kyoto! Staff is super nice and helpful, they speak great English. Room is nice and super clean, you will comfortably sleep on a futon (if you need help to set the futon staff will help). They provide free tickets for the onsen (tattoo friendly) that's right in front of the building. You will also get an amazing pyjama for the night! Breakfast is great (both Japanese and international). The Ryokan is very close to the bus stop (they also sell bus daily tickets) or if you are coming by train it is 10 minutes walking from the JR station Tambaguchi. A lot of nice restaurants in the area.

+1
From the moment we entered, we were immersed in the hospitality, till when we checked out the following day. Miyu Ota (manager) checked us in and explained in great detail the area, the accessibility, and what the ryokan and Kyoto have to offer us during our visit, she also patiently answered our questions and made us feel comfortable.
They are located is in a very quiet area but bus stops are close by. When we needed a taxi, the staff would call one for us. There was an evening reception of seasonal snacks and drinks as well as complimentary tea, hot chocolate, and water in the public space during our stay.
The onsen is across the street (there is an alternate location if this one is closed), they provide a basket of toiletries to use in the onsen so no unnecessary purchases would need to be made. Our ryokan was so warm and comfortable considering it was wintertime.
I highly recommend staying here during your visit to Kyoto, we can't wait to stay here again.

We really enjoyed our stay. We're a family of three traveling with our adult daughter. The room was comfortable, the breakfast was good, and the staff was excellent! While there is a small shower in the room, guests can use the public bath right across the street. It was quite the experience!

Friendliness of the staff, beautiful interior and clean hygiene of the facility. It was great to stay at my first ryokan here. Luggage storage available before check-in/after check-out. When you check in, you will be given a welcome drink and sugar cookies to warm your body and mind. Free coupons and usage instructions for the public bathhouse across the street are also provided, so you can enjoy a comfortable bath. We recommend that you bring your wallet for a 'cool glass of milk', which is an essential post-bath routine. There is also a convenience store nearby, and you can eat outside food inside the ryokan.

I had the best experience staying at Luck You in Kyoto. The staff were so attentive and kind and it really was an amazing experience staying in a traditional style hotel away from the western style.
Breakfast was always so carefully put out and the staff were always on hand to help or answer any questions.
I was not used to lying on the floor to sleep. They use very slim mattresses and I had 4 because of my western bedding at home but they were more than happy to provide what you needed for comfort, you only had to ask.
The rooms were immaculately cleaned on a daily basis and they provided sleep wear that you could wear around the hotel for breakfast for example. They were so comfy that I purchased a pair to wear back at home.
I purchased some chocolate (Meiji chocolate), from the local supermarket, for the staff as a thank you for their exceptional hospitality.
I would 100% stay there again.
Thank you Luck You!

The most accomodating owners. She gave us recommendations of where to go in Kyoto and overall made our stay feel excellent. Although the room dimensions may seem small for four people, as the premier rooms do not have any big furniture in the way it felt very spacious (coming from four men 190cm and beyond). The tatami room has a wonderful smell that I really liked. Although the breakfast isn’t like higher class ryokans where they give it to you in multiple courses, all you can eat breakfast with miso soup was still good.

Thank you for staying. As our hotel is a recreation of an old Kyoto house, everything is small and often uncomfortable, but we appreciate your understanding. We value the atmosphere of a Kyoto real life, so we also prepare breakfast as you would eat in a very typical Kyoto home. Thank you very much for a pleasant experience of real Kyoto life. We hope to see you again soon.

We were a group of 12 pax consisting seniors, adults and children. The place is of rich history, staff shared its background, arrangement of breakfast timings etc. The place is not very big but still have some cozy corners for guests to do reading, chill or chatting.
Breakfast was my favourite as they served both western (sandwiches) and Japanese (rice, soup and sides). In the evening, they served some light snacks and drinks as well.
Location was ideal as it was only minutes away from main road, bus stops to downtown and convenience store.
Definitely will choose Luck You again.

We ended up staying 5 nights and that turned out to be a great decision. This is a wonderful place to stay, with such friendly helpful staff. We really liked the area, with lots of really good small restaurants in walking distance, and the onsen opposite the hotel is a great way to end each day. There are also excellent transport links in this location and most buses we used stopped literally a 3 minute walk from the hotel. We thought our two person room was very comfortable and really clean. It didn’t matter at all that the bathroom was compact as we used the onsen ( which we loved) every day anyway.
We travel a lot and have stayed in all sorts of hotels. I would say this is one of the best experiences we have ever had and we felt really sad to leave. When we arrived back on our last night there was a handwritten card thanking us for staying for so long! We can’t wait to return and would like to thank everyone at the hotel for their fantastic hospitality.

Absolutely wonderful hospitality and a lovely family-owned and operated feel with a great location.
However, please be prepared the room is teeny tiny tiny… you may be thinking “oh that’s ok- all rooms in Japan are small” and you are correct but this room is so small, it’s almost capsule small. Just be aware of it. If you’re under 5’7” or travel kind alone, it might not bother you.
The walls are very thin as well so if your fellow guests get up earlier or stay up later, it will wake you up but this can be solved by a white noise app.
All things considered, I still recommend the hotel because of the excellent hospitality.

Thank you for your kind words from the staff !Our hotel building is a replica of a traditional Kyoto house, so all the rooms are the size of rooms in Kyoto 100 years ago. Therefore, it is a great ryokan to experience a traditional Japanese room, but we apologize for any inconvenience caused to you. We look forward to seeing you again!

Nice ryokan strategically located to explore wonderful Kyoto. Bus stop a few tens of meters away.
Spotless rooms in traditional style (tatami and futon). The staff are always kind and with a smile. Breakfast also features continental options with sandwiches, toast and jams. I also really appreciated the afternoon "aperitif" with various drinks and sweets. Included in the overnight stay is a pass to use the public onsen in front of the property.
Just one word to conclude: perfect!

Hi Simon, sorry but I never use this service during my stay. You would be better off checking their website or contact them, directly.
Hello. In our RYOKAN(INN), the tattoo is okay. Also, the Public bath located in front of us can be used even if there is a tattoo. Please do not worry.thanks!
Hello. Nearest railway station is JR/TANBAGUCHI Station, METORO/ 5JYO STATION. From both station to Luck-you walk about 15minutes.
It’s very close literally go left outside the building to the next cross street and it’s half a block up.
Thank you for your message. It should be sleep "robe", I suppose. There are no ropes in the rooms. We prepare SAMUE, Japanese style relaxing robe for the guests.
