First time staying in Sapporo and I am glad that I stayed in this hotel.

Location:
Located between Sapporo and Odori station
10 min walk from JR Sapporo station (airport line)
7-11 and Starbucks in the same building
Location in a quieter part of downtown (the Odori area is more bustling)
Accessible by the underground walkway (exit 8) with lifts to the rooms
Shopping in the underground!

Rooms:
Small older rooms but functional
Found the sinks very low!
Love that they provide PJs for sleeping
Wonderful smelling soaps, shampoo and conditioner

Breakfast:
The spread was amazing
Japanese breakfast buffets are in my mind the best
Wonderful value when you purchase with breakfast with the rooms

Service:
Self check-in which was efficient and the staff were on ahdn to help
A porter showed us the way to our rooms (which was helpful as there was a main building and a East building - located side by side)

Value:
Stayed in the run of the house cheapest rooms
Very good value for what we paid

Amenities:
No gym or onsen
Parking available at additional charge

I enjoyed my stay here best among the 3 different hotels we stayed at in Hokkaido this trip. Also had the best breakfast among the 3!

During our recent trip to Sapporo, we spent six nights at the Sapporo Grand Hotel. We divided our stay between the main building (four nights) and the newer east wing (two nights). Here’s our experience:
Main Building: Classic Charm: The rooms in the main building had a classic feel, with dated furnishings. Despite this, we appreciated the cozy ambiance. Cleanliness and comfort were top-notch.
East Wing: Spacious and Modern: The East Wing offered more spacious rooms, and they were newer in design. We found the larger rooms in the east wing to be very comfortable.
Central Location: The hotel’s location was ideal. We could easily walk to all the main attractions:
15 minutes to Sapporo train station
15 minutes to Susukino (shopping and dining district)
7 minutes to Odori Park
We made a delightful evening ritual of visiting Odori Bisse mall (diagonally across the street at the intersection with Odori Park) for ice cream. Note that the shops in Odori Bisse close at 8:00 PM.
Underground Pedestrian Walkway: The hotel’s direct access to an underground pedestrian walkway was a lifesaver during rainy or snowy days.
Breakfast Delights: The hotel’s breakfast options impressed us: Buffet-style with both Eastern and Western dishes. Japanese-style set breakfast served in a dining room overlooking a beautiful Japanese garden
Friendly Staff: While some staff members had limited English proficiency, we were fortunate to meet Mr. Fujimoto during breakfast. His excellent English and helpful recommendations made our stay even better.
Thanks, Mr. Fujimoto, he helped us locate a nearby seafood shop where we purchased dry seafood products to take home.
Overall, a Memorable Stay We were pleased with our stay at this hotel and would return on our next visit to Sapporo. Special thanks to Mr. Fujimoto for going above and beyond to make our stay memorable and enjoyable! 🌟

Since I had a "no designated room" plan, I was prepared for the room to be old, but the deterioration of the annex felt terrible. The bad smell from the unit bath and the damaged furniture made it feel like an old-fashioned business hotel.

Because of the bad smell from the unit bath, we were able to change to the East Wing, but when I saw the decent rooms in the East Wing, I was surprised that they had decent rooms. The room we were able to change to was comfortable and had no problems.

For dinner, we had the "Hokkaido Dinner Course" at "Northern Terrace Diner." The food made with Hokkaido ingredients was delicious, especially the hot onion gratin soup and the melt-in-your-mouth Toyako beef steak.
For breakfast, we had a Japanese set meal at "Garden Dining Kanraku." We were able to enjoy breakfast in a quiet atmosphere, and it was nice to be able to freely enjoy drinks and desserts in buffet style.

If you are staying with your family, you should reserve a room in the East Wing or on a special floor.

While the location is outstanding and the hotel has a prestigious history, my stay was unfortunately the worst experience I've had. The level of service was below what I would expect not only from a hotel of this class but even from a business hotel.

Firstly, I arrived by bus from the airport, but the bus stop was behind the hotel, making it difficult to find the entrance. There were several other guests wandering around with their luggage as well.

I arrived before the check-in time, but I was able to check in without issues, and a bellboy kindly helped with my luggage. However, I was surprised to learn that drinks and snacks, which I thought were included in the room service, but the bellboy explained it is charged separately. When I tried to confirm this by calling the front desk, no one answered. After trying several other numbers, someone finally picked up but abruptly hung up before the call was over.

In the evening, I asked to get a taxi in the lobby (It was raining) but was told by hotel staff it was better to walk to the station as a taxi would not arrive in time. Eventually, I managed to hail a taxi just outside the hotel.

My room did not have a safety box, and upon inquiry, the front desk confirmed there was none. The next morning, I left early and put a 'Do Not Disturb' sign on the door, but when I returned, I found that my room had been cleaned. When I asked the manager, they said the sign was not there when the room was cleaned. This was concerning as I had left several valuables and personal items in my room.

I believe it's problematic to enter a guest's room without permission, especially when renting it. Of course, I paid the billed accommodation and meal charges at checkout.

With the intense hotel competition in Sapporo, I am concerned about the future of this hotel, which my parents also favored.

The proactiveness of their Assistant Manager, Shigesato Nakano to find a solution upon our check in, prevented what could have been a disastrous stay at the hotel.

Upon check in, we were allocated a smoking room on a smoking floor, by the hotel, as indicated by Agoda. Having made non such request, the condition of the initial room was highly unacceptable and unsuitable for a 5 nights stay from Dec 18-23, 2024.

It did take 2 hours for the hotel to find a resolution and we were assigned to another non smoking room, a family suite as it was the only room available.

Otherwise, the location of the hotel is excellent ( especially the underpass to the stations, subways and shopping areas), the upgraded room was comfortable, clean and great. Bfast was excellent too with the choices of Japanese cuisine ( Hokkaido) and Western options too.

Airport coaches drops and pick up from the hotel (2 mins walk)

Thanks again to Shigesato for a great service recovery solution to the situation,

With much gratitude and thanks.

Jonathan

This is a lousy hotel that has a dated room design, tired looking room with poor air conditioning compared to other hotels I have stay around Hokkaido. The room was terribly hot despite turning the temperature down to the lowest. Customer service was lousy. Hotel website and AI concierge states that we can pay half the room rate to get a late check out of up to 6 hours on our last day. I checked the room availability on my checkout date and the room was clearly available, yet the concierge refused to accord the late checkout to us despite our willingness to pay. Parking for guests isn’t free and is charged at 2000 yen per night, another boo at the hotel. Staff are mostly not trained to speak English. The buffet breakfast was ok but not spectacular. I prefer the buffet at hoshino resorts.

We were warmly welcomed by the staff once we stepped into this hotel and it is very refreshing after a long journey with a stressful connecting flight from Haneda. The top quality spread at the buffet table in the morning is always something to look forward to. The location is fantastic to explore Sapporo with many sights just within walking distance. We will definitely be back next winter!

My family and I booked 8 rooms through Amex card for this hotel , unbelievable we had a very bad services & attitude from the hotel staffs firstly we were refused to have the porter services from them we had to carry our baggage up to the rooms by ourselves and have been told the they don’t have enough staffs to help us . Before the checking out day we asked them to arrange the staffs to bring our baggage down again they said they e enough staffs to do so and if we really want this service we have to pay for this service, we have then to take all our baggage down , we have to use the hotel trolleys to carry our baggage down and when we we’re dragging trolly to the lobby so many times all the staffs just stand still do nothing they even come help us even we are old people, while we were doing so one of Japanese lady in the lift asked why don’t you ask the staff to help because she had them to do so for 3 rooms, this was such incredible services from the hotel and I think this is the intention to show the manner of discrimination because we are foreigner and we are not Japanese .
I swear to god this is our first time and last time for such a terrible hotel in Sapporo.Remark: we had 10 holidays in Japan we had check in 3hotels including Conrad & Hilton which such the excellent hotel in term of good service as 5stars hotel.

As one of Sapporo's most established hotels, it offers solid, high-quality service.
The rooms are clean and the amenities are plentiful. It's also great that you can access Sapporo Station and Susukino via the underground passage while avoiding the cold.
The breakfast was also satisfying, using many ingredients from Hokkaido.

Keep the curtains of the old-fashioned rooms open and wake to the sight of the city commercial offices spread out before you, just past your toes. These are not rooms designed for lingering in or honeymooning, or for inviting friends to stay who are, say, over 6 foot.
What this micro-hotel lack in size, décor, service and style, it makes up for in the superb location. Centrally situated in close proximity to JR Tower, Sapporo Station and the subway, it is ideal for travellers keen to get up, out, and take on Sapporo. An abundance of excellent restaurants and shopping are a short stroll away including Paseo Mall, Daimaru Department Store and Tokyu Department Store Food Court.
Truly an old-world ambience that transport guests back in time. This is the true truth as I say it as it is…

Takes me about 10 minutes to walk from hotel to Susukino. You can walk underground or above ground, depending on the weather. There are restaurants and food court in the vicinity of the hotel.

How do i travel to sapporo from tokyo by train?
Answer from David H
Wailuku, Hawaii281 contributions96 helpful votes
We traveled by train from Sapporo to Tokyo but you can do the reverse trip. You would take the Tohoku Hokkaido Shinkansen (bullet train) from Tokyo to Shin-Hakodate, then take the Super Hokuto from Shin-Hakodate to Sapporo. It'll take about four and a half hours from Tokyo to Shin-Hakodate and another three hours and forty minutes from Shin-Hakodate to Sapporo. We broke up the long trip by staying in Hakodate for a couple of days. We would also recommend looking into the JR Rail Pass if it makes financial sense. We upgraded to the Green Pass since we knew we would be traveling a lot on the shinkansen. We like traveling on the shinkansen so we traveled by train instead of flying from Sapporo to Tokyo.
