If you are looking for luxury or perfection, please go to a high-end hotel or inn that is expensive. This inn is recommended for those who want to experience the satisfaction and value of being close to the top rank, even though they were looking for something above average.
1. The dinner was almost perfect in terms of quantity (just right), quality (the dishes were a reflection of the chef's taste and technique, and the taste was of course satisfying), and hospitality. It was a dinner at an inn that made me want to shout with joy for the first time in a long time.
2. Breakfast was also a buffet, and each dish was carefully prepared and really delicious. The only thing that made me want to say, "Hmm? That's not so good, is it?" was the grilled salmon.
3. The staff's greetings and behavior were also excellent for an inn of this class, and the young staff at dinner were also smiling, and I wanted to squint my eyes at their halting explanations of each dish. I think the education is excellent.
4. One thing that is common in inns of this rank is that the walls of the rooms are thin. This was also clear. There were many families and young people as guests, but I didn't feel any stress at night.
5. The bathroom was generally comfortable, but the only disappointing thing was that they were skimping on the hot water (this isn't just a common thing here, but has been happening a lot recently). It was trickling at night, and it seemed like they stopped the flow of hot water completely during the night. The water in the morning was stagnant, so I didn't feel like taking a long bath. (By the way, it seems that they clean it after check-out.)
Overall, I was very satisfied with this inn, and I can see why it's so popular. Thank you for your help.

I think this is an inn where you can feel the tradition and nostalgia of Jozankei. The hot springs are also very soft on the skin and it was a bathing time to be aware of the beautiful skin mode. I'm looking forward to the food, which is all warm and gentle, with each and every carefully prepared bite. You can of course enjoy the 45-yard crab, which may be custom-made. You can travel to and from Sapporo from the city by the Forty-seven local bus, although you should stay overnight, or you can visit easily by using forty-nine car rentals.

Located right near the Jozankei river on the main street. It is a relatively smaller hotel comparing to other gigantic hotels nearby. Have stayed at Furukawa in Otaru some time ago. It is an Edo feel hotel but you do not feel it is dated. We booked a relatively larger room with beds and living room. But first you need to carry your luggage up a flight of stairs before taking the elevator to your room.
Our room include access to the top floor lounge where snacks and drinks are are available. It was a nice additional benefits. We were given free tickets to access the illumination show. Originally I thought it was just some light bulbs hanging on the buildings and bridge. It was an excellent show spreading afew hundred meters showcasing not only lights but video show. It is an illuminaiton show not to be missed.
Our Japanese dinner was special with some cooking skills you do not always see in other onsen hotels. The night we stayed at Furukawa there was a chamber musical performance of violin, piano and oboe (not sure if it was an oboe). The visit was full of surprise.

This is my third stay, but I have always felt that the breakfast area was not well-received, and I have written about this in the hotel questionnaire. The first time, I was made to wear plastic gloves during the COVID-19 pandemic, and even though there were elderly people there, they forced me to carry the tray, and the third time, I had a small child (2 years old) with me, so after the meal, I asked them to take the tray away, but they coldly told me, "Please leave it there." (The same male veteran staff member was clearly arrogant in his attitude.) The second time, it was not a buffet, but a kaiseki breakfast, and when I opened the lid of the fish and other grilled dishes before the fire was lit, I was scolded and told, "Please don't open it yet." She said that she would open it herself because it would get hot after the fire was lit, but she forgot and never came, and when she did come, she didn't even say "I'm sorry," but just said, "Oh dear, it was meant to be a side dish for rice, but it didn't make it in time, hahaha." The younger staff members all had wonderful attitudes, but what was wrong with these two older people? I really want them to be re-educated. I feel sorry for the young staff who are really working hard and putting up with such older staff members.

I stayed at Furukawa, a popular inn in Jozankei Onsen, for a day trip. The open-air bath was very nice, including the atmosphere. After the bath, I took a rest in the lounge. The furniture and atmosphere of this space were also very nice. There seems to be a night lounge as well, which you can use if you stay overnight. It's a nice inn with a relaxing atmosphere and the host's good taste.

Was on a one-day tour to the Jozankei. There are tons of onsen to choose from. However, for japanese onsen you would only go to male onsen and there isn't any way that you can spend the time with your loved one. Hiring a private onsen becoming a need.
Just browse around and found that this hotel is very nicely. I cannot find the english name of this hotel and I believe this hotel deserve a much better ranking than the current ranking. It's very new and very comfortable and in stylish.
I've attached some pictures of the private onsen, which you can rent at about 2400yen for 50mins. Highly recommended for you to take a break there!

There is really nothing much in Jozankei to see, especially when we were here in mid-Sept with no autumn leaves. But if you want to savor true Japanese hospitality, it’s worth the trip just to stay here. After all, Jozankei is less than one hour away from Sapporo and they have free shuttle bus service from Sapporo.
When I was in Takayama, I fell in love with the ryokan “Oyado koto no yume” ( see my review). This Furukawa ryokan is just as impressive. Besides its great service and attention to details, the owner has such exquisite taste that one would hope to meet him in person.
From their hotel website, we have no idea that the hotel is so big—not because it has many guest rooms; in fact, the owner has set aside a gallery devoted to a certain poet and calligrapher; another room filled with old musical instruments in a Meiji era setting; a spacious sitting around where you can sip free tea and read a book; huge restaurants in traditional style…. At night after dinner/onsen bath, do walk around the hotel and enjoy every corner of it. Of course you can “talk” to Uncle Rabbit, who has just turned 10.
We paid 15300 yen each for one night, dinner and breakfast inclusive. To our surprise, it is a room suite. We had a separate room with sofa and a message chair. No more crawling on the tatami and aching feet!
As we are not used to the Japanese sitting style, we had our course dinner at the restaurant, sitting in a “horikotatsu”—those table where you can put your feet underneath the hole below the table. We were expecting a good traditional Japanese meal. But wow, the 36 year old chef exceeded our expectation. He created such a wonderful course menu with a touch of French cuisine. The dishes were not especially decorative, but the taste and its creative use of ingredients were awesome. The Japanese style breakfast buffet was again a pleasant surprise. The onsen water is white, with no smelly sulfate. The downside is that the outdoor onsen does not have a view, but with the light background music, we had a great time relaxing in the hotspring. The only drawback of this ryokan- there is no wi-fi coverage.
Apparently, this hotel group also has one in Otaru. Would look forward to staying there next time.

We checked in on the 9th August for our grand finale night, the tenth night in Hokkaido. It was drizzling and about 4-5 staff came running to the entrance to greet, sheltered us and carried our bags and luggages.
The ryokan, big and beautiful with tasteful decorations, together with friendly and helpful staff, looked a picture of warmth and comfort.
We were shown to our tatami rooms and briefed the different places to go for our meals and onsen. After we settled down, one staff came to make tea for us. Toiletries include hair and skin care, sun blocks, feet cooling gels, snoring plasters, mani and pedicure cure packs and many others. A massage chair was also provided in our room.
We changed into yugatas provided and proceeded to the onsen. It was big with indoor and outdoor pools, dressing areas were provided with simple skin care, toothbrushes, shower caps, cold drinking water and even drinking vinegar. We had a good time and thereafter continued to our private dinning room.
Dinner was a 10-course kaiseki, every single dish was tastefully presented and explained by the senior lady staff in attendance. The sashimi of different fishes, peony prawns, sea urchin, was beyond words of description. A wedge of grapefruit was a unique way to end the sashimi and to prepare us for the next dish. Each dish had its own "melting point" in each of our hearts, an experience that would lingered on in our lives.
The buffet breakfast had a good and extensive spread of Japanese cuisines. Staff helped around guests with their food, one very senior male staff even came to ask if we would like to have sushi.
We left about 9am for our flight home. Again the staff assisted in our luggages and bags and waved and bowed while our bus moved along.
Yes, we would definitely like to come back again! We had made a wise choice to stay in this ryokan, a decision with no regrets, but only sweet memories.

we stayed one night in furukawa in early october. first impression after we stepped in the hotel was a very warm welcome from all the staffs. one lady leaded us to the room and showed us all the room amenities. then she made us nice green tea and tried to explain us something about the food. she cannot understand english at all but i guess she tried to ask what food we cannot eat so that they can prepare us dinner appropriately. it was a funny conversation as we cannot understand each other but a lovely experience though and we don't mind since we can eat everything and would like to try traditional japanese food.
our room is very big. there're two beds in one side and the japanese style sitting area in the other. you can close the door in the sitting area and make it two room separately from each other. the big plus for us is the massage chair provided in the room. it's very comfy and we like it a lot.
keiseki dinner and buffet breakfast were excellent. we had tried lots of traditional japanese food which we havn't known it before. there's no english sign for buffet line though so you don't know what you have eaten :)
onsen is great. we booked a private onsen at a cost of 2,000 yen for 50 minutes. it was so nice and relaxing. if we spend more time here i would love to try the public onsen as well.
i cannot say enough about great service here. japanese service we experienced in our trip is generally very good but here is exceptional. when we left, two staffs had sent us to our car, said goodbye and waived their hands when we drove off until we cannot see them. that's very lovely!!
overall is a very great experience and we definitely would love to come back again.

I travel solo quite a bit, so it matters to me how welcoming and comfortable my accommodation is, especially in a country where you don't speak the language.
Furukawa was my first ryokan experience, and I was so delighted with my stay there. The staff were meticulous and helpful, and made every effort to make my stay so warm and pleasant. I didn't feel in the least awkward being one of the few foreign guests in the ryokan.
The onsen baths were pleasant, relaxing and so invigorating. I especially enjoyed the outdoor spa onsen which came as part of a promotional package with my stay.
The food was excellent and dinner was kaiseki-style, I believe. And after a hard day of skiing, a relaxing onsen bath and sumptuous dinner were absolutely the loveliest icing on the cake.
This ryokan was really one of the highlights of my time in Sapporo.
