I was not overly impressed by the hotel. Room was small and just generally felt like a hotel trying to be elegant/upmarket but failing miserably. Room was quite small with no view. Location also was not fantastic.

I share some tips on making the most of your stay here. Most of the reviews mention the calm of this place as compared with the noise of downtown which is a definite plus.
My flight landed at 12.30 am and I picked the hotel as it seemed reasonably close to one of the stops of the airport shuttle night bus 5. This is the Bell tower stop and the hotel is a landmark of sorts.
This bus leaves at 1.30 am and can get quite crowded even at that time. The journey to reach Bell Tower will take about an hour as they let off passengers along the way. Yes, there are taxis even at that hour - 2.30 am and in winter! After that it's a 10 minute journey. In total it's about 1/5 the cost of a ride from the airport. I figure the taxi will take half the time, your choice!
As for public transport the Wulukou metro (exit F) is quite near and that takes you to most places of interest. Near the station is the Mingleyuan, a food street and the Wanda plaza, a shopping center. Along the way there, food choices are abundant as well as pharmacies, convenience stores - without the crowds downtown.
However you need to exit via the staff entrance to Shangde Rd then into Xisan Rd . Not so grand, but functional.
Bus 603 brings you to Bell Tower easily and cheaply, from the entrance along Dongxin street.
Enjoy!

This hotel is located away from noisy roads but within a short drive /cycle to the city walls, a great food market, bell tower etc. it is an hour by taxi to Terracotta Army Museum and the reception is very helpful with arranging taxi that can take you there and back. My room had and amazing bathroom and very comfortable bed. Wifi like elsewhere in China doesn't give you access to western search engine websites, emails, news websites. There was one western tv channel. The garden and area outside of the hotel is a little dark and depopulated but I wasn't looking for a vibrant city life, so I didn't mind. I appreciated it as I could sleep better when it was so quiet. The hotel is a little outdated but everything was clean and functioning very well.

Is not the first time I go that hotel, just for business my company sent me there for 8 times per year.
Is always the same, old structure, dirty kettles, dirty bathrooms, used bath amenities..... The worst is the wifi.
If I am on a business trip I need a stable internet connection and regrettably they don't give a.... About that.
They simple reply is "you can come to the lobby to use wifi" 😂
Is incredible the way how they run hotel business.

The hotel definitely has a 1950s luxury vibe, it's a part of a large Renmin Square hotel complex that share some facilities (notably a great swimming pool in the next building). The location is great, walking distance to the city centre and like 7 min from metro.
The hotel made a mistake in a my booking and upgraded me to a suite as a result (which was nice but that room was not ready so I had to wait).
The suite was nice, with a comfortable bed and pretty much twice everything I needed. Also two wifis - only the Renmin one worked, the hotel one recommended by reception did not work at all. The room had like 20 switches next to the bed, I picked the 'Night' one - bad surprise, it also switches off the bedside socket so I woke up to a discharged phone.

The entrance and reception is very impressive, bright and spacious, our room was very different. The room was very dark, small and lacked that instant freshness, it felt more like a cupboard. It overlooked derelict buildings and had no view. There were lots of mosquitoes in the room and I got a really nasty bite. Our room was tired and small. It needed an upgrade and looked entirely different than photos shown on their website - photos with the blinds pulled down in the bathroom overlook derelict buildings or the back of the hotel – not a beautiful holiday view.
Room service was excellent and delivered quickly but we had to eat off our knees, there was no room to place the two trays on the tiny desk.
The breakfast buffet had a good selection of food although all a little bland.
The hotel is in a good location but not sure if I would return based on the room.
An impressive appearance not reflected in the rooms, 5 star reception area, 3 star rooms. I can only base my opinion on the room the hotel chose to allocate us.

Excellent luxury hotel room, the king/queen bed was comfortable, the extended living area was spacious, and the 2 toilets & jacuzzi were therapeutic.
Hotel service was again superb. You could make order for 1-day & 2-day short trips (group/personalised) with the hotel directly from their partners.
Located within the old city walls, its a very central and convenient place for travel.
The range of breakfast offerings were good but limited to Chinese cuisine.

I stayed here with my tour group. The room was very comfortable but I could not get the air conditioning to work properly and because my room faced west, it was quite warm in the afternoon. the room was spacious with a comfortable bed and pillow and huge bathroom. Breakfast each morning was plentiful with lots of fruit. I enjoyed my stay here for 3 nights.

On arrival the building looks impressive, but when we arrived by taxi late at night 12.45 pm the night porter was on his phone And DID NOT come down from his seat untill we got almost the top of the stairs, he did open the door but did not offer to help with luggage🤔🤔
The lobby reception desk is smaller than expected, but it is an old building, 1 lift 🤔
Got told the wrong floor for our room by the staff, so had to come back down to reception ( when coming in late at night is not good) The room was ok clean and had a very big bed but couldn’t connect to the internet, also had a old feal very dated, and did NOT. Like the lighting system at all , operated from one side of the bed ONLY Stupid 🤔😡internet bad so had to change rooms. It was no better 😡😡 so we had to just use normal signal ( using up valuable data)
Breakfast was ok nice omelettes but the breakfast was not as good or impressive as other places of 4 * hotels, staff was pleasant and trying to be helpful.
The swimming pool as advertised was NOT in the hotel but in the Sofitel hotel which was ((very impressive hotel) but 5* which is 2 minutes walk away🤔
I think in its day the hotel was a grand place to stay with opulent decor, but if you like more modern it’s not the place to stay

Hotel is fab. Receptionist (with mask) very unhelpful. Asked her for a local map and she said no don't have one. Didn't offer to help/show me where etc. I had to find myself one from the concierge.
Asked same girl to book the hotel restaurant for us and she, again, declined. Said I had to go up the 3 floors and book it myself. As many of their staff do not speak English, e.g. two girls in the reception bar, I had asked the receptionist for help, but no. Found her very rude and unhelpful.

Besides, we do not have reception bar. Therefore, may I confirm if your comment is on your stay with us? If yes, would it be possible for me to know the dates and room number of your recent stay? I'll investigate personnally if yes. Yours sincerely, Sam Gu Hotel Manager
