I stayed at the Hotel Moskva in 1986 when I visited the former Soviet Union. Then Leningrad was the first city we visited on our Intourist tour. You couldn’t visit the Soviet Union as an independent traveler in those days. The rooms in the photos look almost exactly as they did when we stayed there. It is a HUGE hotel. I believe it was the largest in the world in 1986. Looks like a good place to stay if you want to taste the former USSR. Location is great—you can walk most anywhere, including the Hermitage Museum. When I was there, the hotel was strictly divided with rooms on one side for Western tourists and the other for Eastern block/Russian tourists. The goal was that the tourists from each side did not meet each other. Each side had its own restaurants/bars. You paid in rubles on one side and dollars on the other. We “sneaked” over to the Eastern block side and had champagne and caviar with some Russians. It was much more lively and fun than the Western side. If I go to St Petersburg again, I will definitely stay at the hotel! I gave it a 5 bc when I went there, it was one of the high class hotels of the day.

It was my 1st visit to Russia and couldn’t be more memorable staying at wonderful hotel like this... The ambience was good and the food was really good and the plus point is that it has shopping malls just next to it which makes it spectacular..

Great location within a two block walk to red square Plenty of restaurants nearby. The rooms are slowly being updated. The bathroom had been renovated and was quite nice. The bedroom was waiting for a refurb but was clean and bed was comfortable Plenty of hot water. The room was really warm we actually opened a window. Easy to get hand washing dry overnight and during the day. Breakfast was continental..a bit ordinary but got you going Will stay again.

Perfekt location. Close to public transportation and walking distance to city center. Friendly staff. Nice rooms. We had a "free drink" ticket due to waiting time at the check in desk. Don't take it for the breakfast.
