Don’t be put off by the outside of this hotel- it is in a traditional old St Petersburg building and the outside reflects that. Inside it is warm, bright and clean with lovely exposed brickwork and a splendid old staircase. Staff were unfailingly helpful, from sorting out our airport taxis to giving us extra pillows. The room had obviously been recently refurbished and was a good size for two people. The beds were comfortable and the safe was a useful addition. We were not troubled by noise as we overlooked a small courtyard. Heating is a radiator- we ended up turning this off during the night as it was very warm. My only complaint is that, about the time we got up (8ish?) there was no hot water, although slightly later and in the evenings there was plenty. As vegetarians, we always found plenty to eat, although I will agree with other reviewers that some items looked a little stale. We always toasted our bread but I don’t think I would have liked it otherwise. The location of the hotel couldn’t be better- it is a two minutes’ walk from St Isaac’s Cathedral and you can follow the street all the way to Palace Square- great for people like me with no sense of direction. If we return to St Petersburg, we would certainly want to stay here again and have recommended this hotel to our friends and family.…
