What makes this place special is that you’ll find its tranquillity more valuable than its price. What I love the most is the surrounding and the garden and it relieves the stress you get from the bustling city. And the shore is nothing but an ample supply of breeze as you walk around, however, they should have done something to make it look fancy and kept tidy.

Well, this is a vintage, history-rich property that still astound visitors, it isn’t as modern as the other neighboring hotels but it's rather more relaxing and more connected to nature. It reflects in the alley and hallways and although the bed still gives you incredibly rewarding comfort the room really needs some few touch ups to match modern comfort and the decades old ACs need to be fixed as I found it warm.

I found it a very sweet gesture from the Front Desk team to upgrade us from standard to deluxe. Thanks to Pat for a really humble manner towards guests and to the entire staffs who were courteous and helpful wherever we go. I believe they could have done better by responding to our requests as quickly as possible and interrupting us at early and ask what time we're going to check-out when it's obviously the standard time is at 12 noon, I could have given a five-star rating.

As for the room service, they delivered fast and it really is a generous amount, and delicious. When we visit next time we would for sure order again as I find walking to the restaurant a bit too far to hold my hunger. Kidding!

For sure, we'd be back again in the future.

The Waterfront - Insular Hotel Davao , one of the "oldies" in the hotel business located in this sprawling super clean city with so much high rise buildings sprouting both for office spaces and of course for the booming tourism here (again -semi post COVID) . I first experienced the then Insular Hotel Davao ( not yet partnered with Waterfront group) back in the mid 90's . When it probably was the best hotel in the city , offered a nice bar (vinta bar) with someone playing the piano , food was very inviting , nightlife , crowd , ambience was 8 out of 10 combined. Hotel staff were different, more respectful , accommodating and pleasing . Not to take away anything from the present staff working , its usually management who calls the shots and trains their staff.

Back then after a long drive coming from the province of Sultan Kudarat ( 120kms away) , the minute you stepped in the hotel you wouldn't want to go anywhere anymore. The drive would be so tiring that after a bottle of White wine , served with your choice of seafood - grilled tuna , fresh shrimps , oyster and everyone's favorite inihaw na baboy (grilled pork belly) with hot steaming rice. That was it . No time for coffee nor a cigarette , it was straight to the comfy bed and cold airconditioned room blasting away. Now its a bit different , aircons not working properly , didn't even bothered checking what was being offered on the menu, waiters didn't know what to suggest for finger foods .... But how can I complain it still felt like being back home. (Of course I had to transfer room, one with an aircon blasting) . Overall it a 5 out of 10. Thank you Insular Hotel . We had good times together before. It's kept in my memory bank! Cheers.

I stayed in one of the standard rooms, which could use a little bit of work. The furniture was in good shape, and housekeeping does a good job cleaning the room daily. However the bathroom needs to be renovated. The door dragged on the floor making very loud noises. The sink looks dirty because of the silicone adhesive is old and discolored. The electrical outlet housing is so corroded that the plate falls of exposing live wires. And the hairdryer plug looks like it’s also coming apart. The swimming pool could use a new paint job as the bottom looks old. Other than these shortcomings, the resort is really nice. The breakfast buffet is decent. And staff is very polite.

There were a lot of mishaps with our stay last week with Waterfront.

1) Reservations: We booked directly with the hotel sales for a Standard Double room. We were given a totally different rate from the one that was charged to us upon check-in. You would think that since we were directly coordinating with the hotel, that this won't be a problem.

2) Airport Transfer: We coordinated directly with the same person for Airport Transfer and had problems as she gave a completely different name to the airport transfer staff. First off, there was no person at the airport transfer counter for Waterfront. We had to ask around and look for a person at the parking area. This was very difficult as we didn't see our names, mainly because they had the wrong name.

3) Front Desk: Inconsistent policies. We were informed that children 6 years old and below are entitled to free breakfast. When we availed of our breakfast, we were charged half rate for our 6-year old son, with the waitress stating that their policy is free breakfast for 5 years old and below. So which is which? Anyway, we just paid the half rate as we were already there.

4) Laundry Service: Called 3x to request for Laundry Express pick up and to borrow an iron and ironing board. No one came. Had to go out of the room and thankfully, there were housekeeping personnel cleaning on our floor and the room that they were cleaning had an iron and ironing board which they set up in our room. The attendant for the Laundry Express came after 1.5 hours.

5) Amenities: Given that we booked our room for 2 adults and 2 kids (6yo and 4yo), we were requesting for 2 additional bath towels. We were told by the Housekeeping who answered the phone that they can only give us 1 additional towel. This is unheard of in any of the hotels that we have stayed in with our kids! The attendant only gave us 2 towels after I asked him if he was proposing that my kids will share 1 towel?!

Given the long list of unimaginable things we encountered here, we don't recommend this place at all.

Everything about this hotel is OLD. I don’t know if they’re going for the “classic” look but let me tell you, it sucks.

From the interior to the amenities... I can’t even begin to describe the horror of this place.

No sitting area in the lobby and check-in takes time. Room smells musty, furnitures are outdated (some even from the 90’s) Lots of cracks in the walls. Paint in the wall worn off. Hallways are super dark. Room is dark too, only lamps are available. No ceiling light at all.

Their garden and greeneries are well maintained but they seem to forget the maintenance and the beautification of the building (rooms, furniture, facilities)

Pool is filthy, algae is growing on the walls of the pool.

There’s “WIFI” but it’s not working.

The manager of this place always says the same thing in the guests’ reviews but there’s no action being done from the management as far as i can see. Totally unacceptable if you choose to say the same thing to the guests over and over again, yet there’s no improvement. Ever since I was an elementary kid this place hasn’t changed one bit and that was like 20 years ago.

I hate to say it but I don’t know why this place is still running. I feel bad for the employees who are all nice and helpful, they deserve more, really. It’s like the employees are making up for the total lackluster of this hotel.

Will not be coming back to this place

Visited this place this afternoon for swimming and something to eat afterwards, as it came recommended.
We paid 1900 php to reception. This included pool entrance and some snacks from the buffet restaurant. Quite good we thought.
However, when we got to the pool it was FILTHY DIRTY see pictures. In fact it was the dirtiest swimming pool I have ever seen and clearly a health hazard. I went back to reception and asked foe my money back and asked how often the pool was cleaned. "Every wednesday" I was told. This is a large hotel resort with many many guests and the pool should be cleaned every morning not once a week! I got refund and went to the restaurant to buy some food instead. I went to use the toilets to wash my hands They were hot and smelly and the hand dryer was hanging off the wall. The mirrored wall at the entrance was also filthy and smeary (see pics) I ordered the Thai Red curry shrimp which arrived with a luke warm wet plate to eat it from. The curry was so thin it resembled soup so I sent that back and it returned slightly thicker. However the shrimp where dumped in tbe curry whole with no preparation, so I had to head, tail, de-leg and skin them myself before I could eat them, by which time of course the rest of it was cold. What a shame, this place does certainly look the part, but the areas that are customer facing are dirty which badly let's the place down.
The waiters and waitresses are impeccably polite. The management need to get their act together, only then would this be a place I would recommend, but as it is, my advice is to avoid it.

Toilet, shower, poolside requires refurbishment . So as business centre full with dusts.
Reception staff appeared not honest in giving information as to checking in.
Pool side needs topping up of Peebles and freshening up.
Reception staff requires further training. Food in seafood restaurant was rubbish and is as hard as rubber especially the baked mussels.

The room is outdated and there are a lot of damage in the room itself. The bathroom doesnt have any working locks, and even found a toilet paper inside where the lock of the door should be. Rusts can be seen everywhere, especially in the comfort room. The tub is far from ideal as well. It has rust and the worse thing is the outer lining of the tub is chipped. Called 3 times to ask for a flat iron, only to actually go out and ask the people cleaning the rooms for an iron before they gave one.

I checked in and they charged me 3,000 pesos (60 US Dollars) for items in the minibar that I might consume. The room had no food or drink at the minibar.

The pool was absolutley disgusting. It has not been properly cleaned or sanitized. See the photos. Yet, they left this pool open for customers to swim in (nobody was swimming in the cesspool) . It's missing tiles, so be careful where you step.

The jacuzzi was also nasty, dirty, and missing a drain cover. Don't step on it!

The entire resort. As a whole, is run down and not properly maintained. Find another resort!

Though the exterior of the Hotel and compound are well kept, the rooms are outdated and worn. The WiFi was so bad that they tried to work on the connection several times. I even had to go into the hallway to try and get a signal. The person sent to remedy the problem finally gave up and said "anything else I can do for you?" before leaving. Umm, how abou getting me the WiFi promised. Urg! Also the sliding glass door was busted so if I left my room anyone could climb into my room via the sliding glass doors. How about spending some of that $ that spent on the compound, to update the rooms. The wooden floor in my room was so scraped up it reminded me of a torture horror film I once saw.
