If you like to stroll and walk like us, this is the hotel to stay. It is situated in close proximity to all the must see places in Davao City: People's Park, San Pedro Cathedral, Roxas Night Market, Magsaysay Park, etc. The hotel is beautiful with a grand lobby. However the floor hallways do not have a/c and the room carpets need some TLC. Also the bed configuration was quite weird as it was situated close to the wall that made access hard from one side. Our room had a tub/shower and plenty amenities. Our 1st day the refrigerator was not working, which was replaced. WIFI was spotty but TV reception was good. Breakfast buffet was very good and the service was warm and genuine. We felt safe staying at this hotel.

When in Davao City, I always use the Royal Mandaya because of its location, clean room and sheets, friendly staff and reasonable price.

Ask for rooms with the ocean view if staying at the 7th floor and above. It is a beautiful sight.

I just have to say that this hotel was the greatest suprise of our recent 4 week SE Asia trip. The excellent service started when we were collected at the Davao airport. The room was spotless, great food, pleasant staff and for 2000peso (US$40) also tremondous value. (Breakfast included!!!)
As travelling Aussies we will make the Mandaya a priority for a longer stay when next in SE asia
We can not reccomend this hotel highly enough and anyone who complains about it obviously works for another.

The rooms are clean, and the buffet breakfast, while having limited choices, is fulfilling and delicious. I'd love to stay there and wake up in a fresh environment. The securities and customer services are all kind and they are always priority their customers.

I stayed at this comfortable and well equipped hotel for 10 days during May 2004 and was particularly impressed with the general hospitality and friendliness of the staff. "Friendly locals" has become something of a modern travel cliche but in this case the reality matched the rhetoric.
My air conditioned room was comfortable and the meals, whether taken with the help of the efficient room service or in the main restaurant or poolside grill, were always of excellent quality and value.
My last evening was an unforgettable one spent in the Summit Bar and nightclub where the Manager, "Jess, " treated me like a real VIP guest and introduced me to the visiting band.
Summing up the hotel was excellent value, with a handy central location and boasting panoramic views of Mount Apo. But it was the staff, from the security guys to the front desk people and the nightclub waitresses who made my stay a memorable one.
I hope to return to Davao in December to see my girlfriend again and we certainly intend to renew our acquaintance with this delightful hotel.

I didn't have any idea about this hotel before going there, a friend of mine has done the booking so I was a lil bit embarrassed if I am going to like it. I was more than pleasantly surprised to see that it's a very good hotel with a very friendly staff! We experienced some problems with the elevator (they have been repairing it at that time) but the clean and well-furnished room and the great staff helped us forget quick this inconvenience! I would like to recommend it to all the tourists visiting Davao, you won't be disappointed, be sure:)!
Good luck to all the travellers!

When I visited Davao last June 2006, I had the misfortune of booking my mom and my brother to the Royal Mandaya Hotel since it is a little bit cheaper than the Marco Polo (where I stayed since I am on a business trip).

The hotel is impressive from the outside. The lobby is also beautiful. Staff are polite and very accommodating. And so we are expecting that my family's stay will be altogether pleasant.

But when the elevator opened, we were quite disappointed that the corridor on the way to their room is a bit dark. Carpets have stains as well as cigarette burns. When we entered the room, it was the same. Stained carpets (with cigarette burns as well), smell of cigarette smoke, and dirty walls. Not to mentioned the size of the room is a bit small.

I was so embarrased to my mom and my brother, granting that I haven't seen them for three years since I live overseas now. I immediately suggest that they should move to Marco Polo but they politely refused since I already paid for it and that they're just too excited to see me again.

So don't be fooled by the nice facade and lobby!

I had the unfortunate experience of having stayed at the Royal Mandaya twice in three weeks. I had no choice but to comply since it was management's mandate to use the said hotel.

It was great to have complimentary airport pick-up especially in such a large city like Davao. It was made more pleasant given the size of the mini-bus that they provided for us. The driver, Rey, was as efficient as he was courteous. Little did we know that this was the last time pleasant-ness would visit us with this hotel.

Check-in was a nightmare. Apparently, personnel of the Dept of Budget & Mgmt were simultaneously checking-out as we were being driven in.

More than seventy-five people were in the lobby, all clamoring to check-out from only four people at the Front Office. So close to eighty-five guests plus other visitors and staff were crammed into the lobby - and the lobby able to only accommodate seating for twelve people. This scenario was repeated during my last visit not 2 weeks ago, this time it was a hundred personnel of the Dept of Education checking out. The hotel is pretty cheap for its size hence the propensity for government bookings.

What particularly got my goat was the rudeness of one of the front office staffers who when asked face-to-face for a reasonable time for checking in not only ignored my question but turned away to talk to someone else without even a by-your-leave. This after her colleague told me an hour before that my room would be ready after thirty minutes. A senior staffer took my complaint but I felt she was just managing me without offering any concrete solutions. And while this was going on, another guest whose bath towel was stolen while at poolside was raising holy heck in the back-office. Score two for this hotel.

And a business center that closes at 5:30 P.M.!

The breakfast buffet was not any better with stale omelet and chafing dish after chafing dish of greasy hotdogs and sausages.

Location was the only saving grace for this hotel but not as good as that of Casa Leticia or Apo View Hotel.

I would not recommend this hotel to tourists or business men unless the guests wanted easier access to Hot Legs, this girlie bar across the street

Its our first time to visit Davao City, we book online for this hotel. we check in late. it was january 19, 2016 but the moment we entered the main door of this hotel. there is one rude security guard asking me to open my luggage without any explanation why they have to check. First of all we dont know how davao cultured is, so as a visitor he should explain why he has to do checking on it. he just ask me to open my luggage, then i ask y??, my luggage is lock, then still he insisting to open luggage, i was so curious on his attitude. me and my husband look at each other then just give what he wants coz we dnt know davao rules is. he so rude. then as we entered we go straight to reception about our booking room for this hotel. there is one guy who never assist us properly, everything he push to his staff named luis. As we observed Luis knows how to handled foreign visitor well. and he is very approachable and easy to talk to. after he give us the key card and we check the room but it feels like were both uncomfortable so we go down again and to change another room, by the time we reach the reception, i ask one of the staff, then she responce like she looking at me and scared to talk to me??. haiiiyyysss... some staff are terrible.... my husband fed up about the attitude of the staff. they called luis again and ask him to help us.... luis still trying to help us to make our comfortable to stay. coz by that time we are planning to move out because we fed up about the staff service. Luis assist me all the way to check the new room that is only available. he is very helpful for customers need. and as i check the room, i feel ok. then we like the way he say " any problem mam, let me know, im willing to assist." on the other day, there is one guy standing there at the reception named jojo, we loved the way he talk and he really introduced the davao city for us, because on that day we want to do city tour by ourselves, I do some research before we left the hotel about the cost. I advised u guys you do by yourself, just hired a taxi for 1 day , they can bring you the places where you wanna visit for city tour only cost of P2500 TO P3000, of course the entrance fee provided of yours. Dont book on the internet or the hotel. its very expensive. lets go back to hotel. Some staff need to train well about customer service. some staff also when they see me, they look at me from head to toe as they as starring me which is my husband saw everything and he dont like. im not saying everybody. But mostly highly recommended staff need proper training. except for jojo, luis and the one porter who assist us before we left the hotel. i forget the name of a man. it was january 23 in the afternoon. Im wishing this 3 person i mentioned will teach those staff who are very rude and learn how to smile. Luis, Jojo and the porter on duty at jan 23 in morning doing there excellent service for the guest. Food is good. the hotel is nice. but some staff are really terrible and rude.....First impression Last.....
